Ask someone in Rensselaer, Indiana where to head for lunch or dinner and you’ll probably hear “City Office and Pub” (if you are 18 and over, that is).

Judging from the flow of traffic and hearty greetings, City Office and Pub is the Cheers of Rensselaer!

City Pub, as locals call it, is known for a nice, laid back atmosphere and great food. Everyone seemed to know everyone else but that’s not exactly uncommon in a small Indiana town.

But what is unusual is that once upon a time, this pub also housed the Mayor’s office! Talk about job perks!

While the Mayor now has an office elsewhere, it’s kind of a tradition in the area for the just-turned 18 year old to accompany their parents to City Office and Pub for a nice celebratory dinner.

Find daily specials as you walk into City Office and Pub and on the hand-written index card you’ll receive when you sit down. It was hard to decide and I was distracted by my surroundings.

The building is filled with beautiful woodwork. Get a load of that incredible bar. Just fantastic! Head on back to the area with raised seating and check out the old photos of Rensselaer, Indiana in its early days.

We ordered a cheeseburger with Swiss and Fries (hubs) and (you guessed it) a Reuben Sandwich with Fries for me! As you can see from the photos–they were good! I just love a nice Reuben.

What you don’t see in the photo? The awesome Spicy Bloody Mary my husband, Jeremy, and I each had before ordering.

I’ve never had it served with a pickle and olive before but, yeah, that olive was GOOD! Who needs celery?

LOVE the mission of your blog!! Though I live in NYC, I often visit Haddonfield, NJ near my hometown… all colonial, traditional houses, mom n’ pop shops and cobblestone streets. I love small towns =)

I spent a few hours in this place on a Saturday afternoon waiting for a wedding to begin. Two thumbs up on the food-and from what I remember the beer was ice cold. 🙂
