Mar 13th, 2010 | By Jessica Nunemaker | Category: GiveawaysDo small town stores dream of making it big? Kroger big? Look, I recognize that sometimes, just sometimes, it isn’t possible to find everything you need in small town, USA. If I decide to go all Martha Stewart on you or need a bigger size of something, then, yes, I may have a little trouble. Sometimes, you’ve got to branch out.
When I was offered a chance to investigate Kroger’s Cart Busting Savings Event – as well as a $25 gift card to give away…I was torn. Would I lose a piece of little Indiana? So – I did a little digging. What I found set my heart at ease.
It all began with one store: Barney Kroger used his life savings back in 1883 – all $372 of it! to purchase his first grocery store. His motto? “Be particular. Never sell anything you would not want yourself.”
Interesting, don’t you think? Not so very different from a motto that small town (or not so small town) stores have to shoot for today. We all strive for variations of the same big American dream – and Hoosier or not, Barney Kroger just managed to go bigger than most – like 2,500 stores big!
It kind of gives all of us a little hope, don’t you think? Do what you do – and do it well. You just never know what could happen. We all have to start somewhere…even in little Indiana.

I’d stock up on deo. and cat food.
I usually stock up on toilet paper, frozen food items, and cereal.
Pizza rolls, the teens in my house just love them.
I’d stock up on Bounty, Charmin and Progresso soups. Hubby loves their soups and takes them every day for lunch.
I would get lunch meat and cereal.
I’ve been several times already – some great stock ups- $2 lb butter, cereals and some quick meals for when I don’t have the energy to cook.
