Pearlie's Restaurant in Francesville, Indiana -- The Beef PattyPearlie Mays Restaurant in Francesville, Indiana is very homey and bright. Baskets of homegrown sweet yellow tomatoes sat on every table, just begging waiting to be eaten.

I grudgingly obliged, of course (really, who can resist a fresh from the garden tomato?).

As always, we asked the super important question, “What’s good?” We found out that Pearlie’s Restaurant (which was named for the owner’s wife, isn’t that cute?) does their own roast beef and turkey. Our waitress also said that the Beef Patty is really popular.

I think that’s pretty neat for a small town restaurant and something we’ve come across less than a handful of times in our travels so far. It’s always nice to see such an emphasis on homemade!

Francesville, Indiana -- Pearlie's Restaurant and the song-worthy corn dogsWell, hubs decided to go with that recommendation and ordered the Roast Beef with a side of onion rings. I got the Beef Patty and fries (I know, I know, no Reuben Sandwiches this time), and Kid #1 wanted a corn dog (and fries). He’s all adventurous like that.

Back to the food: my Beef Patty was great! Hubs liked his Roast Beef sandwich and Kid #1 sang a little song about his corn dog so, yes, even he was pleased.

In fact, Kid #1 went on to say that it was the best corn dog ever. I say go for the onion rings as your side. They are pretty good.

Pearlie's Restaurant in Francesville, Indiana -- the Roast BeefOn our way out, when I usually say who I am and what I do (you know, write little Indiana? I try to keep it a secret beforehand so I get a true sense of a place) our conversation was overheard by a nice older gentleman and his grandson.

They agreed that I have to check out a certain general store in the middle of nowhere (the best kind there is!).

Believe you me: it is so on my list. I’d share the name with you but I wrote it down somewhere or other and my memory is pretty horrible…
