Yes, this unusual Indiana town farm lets you get right up close and personal to these giant 1200 lb. animals to feed them fruit from a stick (you don’t really want little fingers, or, really, any fingers, to get close to these big guys and gals).
Kid #1 was particularly excited at the prospect of pitching the leftover fruits into the buffalo pen. It’s a huge expanse of land, but the big guy and gals preferred to stay close to the fence and the food. Talk about an animal after my own heart!
I am pretty sure that Kid #1 could have spent all day throwing the fruit in there. He sure does love to throw! My husband, Jeremy, and I, on the other hand, were simply amazed by these hairy animals.

It’s hard to believe that once upon a time buffalo roamed freely. Really, deer are bad enough. Just imagine hitting a 1200 to 2400 lb. animal with your car! Yikes.
The very nice owner of the farm mentioned that his old male (who lived to be 23 years old) used to rub against the fence when he saw him as if in greeting.
The male buffalo weighed 2400 pounds. Can you even imagine?
You can check out the hide of the old guy buffalo–it’s nailed up against the cabin in the back. It was obviously the owner’s favorite and he still seemed a bit broken up about his loss.
