Liberate Creativity is an Indiana blog that will make you think outside the box. From fast fixes to monumental craftin’ plans, Becky’s site is a creative hub of pure genius!
Bookbinding and place mats, to wreaths, and even a viewfinder pouch (brilliant!) Becky and her guest posters know crafts.
But luckily for the rest of us, they don’t just know crafts–they share their ideas on Liberate Creativity in easy to follow tutorials. Hooray!
Indiana Blogs: Liberate Creativity
Why did you start Liberate Creativity?
I can spend hours searching crafty websites to help spark new ideas for projects! I’ve always wanted to have a blog, but I could never put my finger on a creative twist to the normal run of the mill crafty project blog…..I mean, at some point I’m bound to run out of my own ideas! So Liberate Creativity was born!
This blog features my projects sometimes, but also features other amazingly talented artists through their tutorials, Q&A sessions and book reviews. This offers a really great encyclopedia of sorts of super fun ideas to spark and unleash everyone’s creativity! Also, I’ve been so humbled by the amazing connections and partnerships with the artisans willing to make a guest appearance on Liberate Creativity! It’s truly been an honor to feature every one of my guests!
What about that name? Why Liberate Creativity?
Although some would disagree I feel everyone can be creative! I came up with the name simply because liberating viewers creativity is the mission of the site!
What are three of your most favorite posts?
- The Out to Eat Place Mat from Gwenny Penny is one of my faves, especially because it has brought a lot of traffic to my site (and it’s just so stinkin’ cute!).
- Chalkboard Train Table – one of my favs simply because I’m obsessed with new uses for chalkboard paint!
- Craf-T Tote – I adore Megan from Brassy Apple! This is a really great tutorial!
What keeps you ready and raring to post? Why do you blog?
Gosh, what doesn’t! My wheels are constantly turning and thinking how to re-purpose everyday objects are find new uses for common household items. Just today I’ve been racking my brain to think of a way to spice up my gross wastebasket in my kitchen!
As for why I blog….I blog because I want to journal my projects, share creative inspirations of my own and other artisans. The day that the blog seems more frustrating than fun is the day I will stop.
Your creativity amazes me. Have you always been so crafty or is this something you discovered recently?
I’ve been crafty since I was a little girl. I remember loving to bake with my mom and Gramama! From making mini pies out of the leftover scraps to decorating Styrofoam cups and melting them down in the oven to create Barbie hats, I was always attempting to make something unique! My creativity has continued into adulthood and I’m completely meant to live in this technology era where googling and blogging exists!
Do you have anything really neat and impressive that even a non-crafter like me could do?
Of course! My feeling is that you don’t have been “crafty” to be creative! I joke with my sister Elizabeth that one day during college she and her friends had a craft night. She presented my mom with a small wooden block with random fabric squares glued to it.
This piece was not impressive to the naked eye, but my mom displayed that block of wood in the console of our car for months! She was so proud of my sister! To this day I still harass her “attempt” at being crafty!
That being said my sister can scrapbook like no one’s business and as a non-scrapbooker myself am constantly amazed! There are so many projects people who don’t feel like their “crafty” enough can do.
I would start off with something fairly simple, such as a Plastic Fusion project. You don’t have to add zippers and such, and if you don’t have a sewing machine you can simply glue gun sides together to create a super cute tote or clutch! Trust me, you collect a ton of plastic bags, get some parchment paper, and iron away!
If you had to be an animal, what animal would you choose?
Ooh, this is a tough one. I would probably say an Elephant. Elephants are pretty incredible, and although they have terrible memories, they have thick skin and direction.
Anything else that you would like little Indiana readers to know about you or your blog?
Something that anyone who has ever met me knows rather quickly….I’m addicted to chapstick! I have back-up chapstick, and even back-ups to my back-ups. My husband would say I’m cuckoo, but I simply say I’m prepared!
