The Reading Housewives of Indiana are an Indiana blog team of two sisters! Their purpose? To highlight the good, the bad, and the ugly…books!
Jacinda and Jasmine love a good story–are love to share it even more. You’ll find a rating system on their blog to help you weed through the many, many books.
I’d call this blog a page-turner! Indiana weather is perfect for nothing–but books! Enjoy!
Indiana Blogs: The Reading Housewives of Indiana
Why did you start The Reading Housewives of Indiana?
Jacinda – I started my blog because my sister told me I should. That’s a good reason, right?! I had been reading for a long time and following tons of other book review blogs and visiting them regularly. My sister thought I could handle running a blog of my own. I told her the only way I was starting a blog was for her to blog with me. We started our blog January 10th, 2010. I’m thankful my sister pushed me into starting our blog. Thanks Jasmine!
Jasmine – Jacinda’s answer pretty much sums it up. Everyone she talked to on Twitter thought she already had a blog, so it seemed like the perfect thing to do. She didn’t want to do it alone so that’s how our blog was born!
What about that name? Why The Reading Housewives of Indiana?
Jacinda – That’s a very good question and I’ve NEVER been asked before. The first half of the name I’ll leave to Jasmine, because she initially came up with it, but Indiana…just because we both live in Indiana!
Jasmine – I always watched The Real Housewives on Bravo. When we were talking about our name the one thing we both had in common was that we were housewives. “Reading” easily replaced “Real” in the title…and voila! The Reading Housewives of Indiana!
What are three of your most favorite posts?
- Jacinda’s favorite review: Touch (Denazen, #1) by Jus Accardo
- Jasmine’s favorite post: Yea, I kind of freaked out.
- One of our favorite signings: MCJ Signing
What keeps you ready and raring to post? Why do you blog?
Jacinda – Just my love of reading! I live and breathe books and I just want to constantly share my love of them with everyone. I blog because it’s the best way for me to share my love of books with most people. I do talk about books with friends and family, but by blogging, I have a bigger reach. I’ve learned so much more about books from blogging. I love the blogging community and being able to discuss books with people who love books as much as me.
Jasmine – I honestly haven’t been a very good blogger lately. I got a job, and then got a promotion, so I’ve been busier. Jacinda has really picked up the slack. She has been the reason I try to really keep up with it.
What are your favorite genres to read?
Jacinda – I read mostly young adult books. More specifically I like to read contemporary, science-fiction (i.e. dystopian, post-apocalyptic, etc.), paranormal, fantasy, and more. I pretty much just shy away from anything horror. I do read some adult books, those generally are paranormal romance and urban fantasy.
Jasmine – I usually only read young adult. I’m more likely to pick up paranormal books, but lately I’ve been trying to read more contemporary to branch out. I’m sure one day I’ll start reading adult books, but I’m very content reading what I am now.
What are your top five favorite books of all time?
Jacinda – This is going to be difficult because I read a lot. In no particular order…
- Touch by Jus Accardo
- Divergent by Veronica Roth
- The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
- Lover Mine by J.R. Ward
- The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart
Jasmine – These aren’t in any particular order…
- Across the Universe and A Million Suns by Beth Revis
- Divergent by Veronica Roth
- The Summer Series by Jenny Han
- The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins
- The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
I cheated a bit because I put whole series as one choice. I just couldn’t decide!
Who are your favorite authors? You know, the people you turn to again and again?
Jacinda –This is going to be a LONG list. John Green, Stephanie Perkins, Elizabeth Scott, Jennifer Echols, Cassandra Clare, Richelle Mead, Sarah Dessen, J.R. Ward, Deb Caletti…I could go on and on! I love SO many authors! I will say though, I read many books by debut authors. They can go under the radar at times and I try to show their books some love.
Jasmine – I don’t really think I necessarily have favorite authors…Many of the books I’ve read have been debut authors so they haven’t written much, but I have some that I will definitely read what they come out with in the future! Stephanie Perkins, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Beth Revis, Veronica Roth, Lorraine Zago Rosenthal, John Green…I’m sure there are more!
Is there anything else that you would like little Indiana readers to know?
Jacinda – I personally think ANYONE can love reading. I think a person just needs to find a genre or a niche that works for them. Think about what television or movies you like, and see if you can find something similar! Half of movies that are in box offices today were originally novels, try reading those books. My husband could never just sit down and read, so he started listening to audiobooks. I love being able to discuss books with him! Just give it a shot!
Jasmine – I’m going to just agree with Jacinda’s answer. There’s something out there for everyone!
