Red Pepper Deli and Cafe: Madison, Indiana

Red Pepper Deli and Cafe: Madison, Indiana The Vampire Slayer

Red Pepper Deli and Cafe in Madison, Indiana is painted an eye-catching bright green and red.

Located in what I can only guess was once a service station, this Jefferson County restaurant is phenomenal!

The giant chalkboard menu has loads of fresh-sounding menu items–with clever names, some of which include familiar Jefferson County landmarks!

Our boys were easy to order for: Kid #2 got Jack’s Jamwich which, appropriately named, is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Kid #1 ordered Sam’s Ham which is, you guessed it, a ham sandwich!

Did I choose the Miss Madison, a turkey breast sandwich loaded with cucumber cream cheese, red onions, tomatoes, and lettuce on eurograin wheat bread? Or the Hanging Rock BBQ, a kaiser roll piled high with shredded chicken in a hot, garlicky barbecue sauce topped with cheese and homemade coleslaw?

With so many choices, my husband, Jeremy, and I took more time to figure it out. There aren’t just sandwiches here at the Red Pepper, there are also wraps, panini, grinders, pizza, soups, and salads!

In the end, my husband claimed The Hydro Plane.  A signature sandwich at The Red Pepper Deli and Cafe, it combines roasted beef, horseradish, pepperjack cheese, red onions, tomatoes, and lettuce on a sourdough bun.

As to myself? You may find it hard to believe but…I didn’t get a Reuben Sandwich! It was tempting, but I decided to try something new: The Vampire Slayer (and you thought I only traveled small towns).

Kidding aside, it was delicious. This fresh-from-the griddle panini combined my favorite things: pastrami, garlicky cream cheese, Swiss cheese, and Ghirdinaria. Served on Rye, it made for a very tasty lunch.

You can sit inside, you can sit outside, you can sit in an upper level. Without sounding too much like Dr. Seuss, let’s just say that the Red Pepper Deli and Cafe is more than just sandwiches! You’ve got options.

I can’t wait to make it back to Madison, Indiana to check out the pizza! It’s a relatively new addition to the menu and one I’d love to try!
