Every so often a small town event comes along that is so full of win it stops little Indiana and family in their tracks–like the European Market in Chesterton, Indiana. It doesn’t always have to do with the size of an event but in this case…it certainly helped! The European Market takes up ample space next to Thomas Centennial Park and even a side street. Roads are closed to make room for the tables and tables and stalls of vendors. Booths are neatly arranged along these paths. This it where it gets really fun!
From carnivorous plants to wood-carving to live music, handmade home decor, a multitude of ethnic baked goods and even a weaver, European Market is not something you can get through in ten minutes. It could take you hours if you are a serious browser. We loved the variety of foods available here. There was amazing looking pizza sold from a truck, cupcakes and other baked treats galore, and fresh bread items. Mixed in were handmade jewelry vendors that had such a range from steampunk to more classic and traditional accessory styles. Artisans were well-represented. We got to see weavers and wood-carvers at work! It was really neat. Our boys loved watching people create items right before their eyes.
There’s more to Chesterton, Indiana than the Wizard of Oz Festival. It’s a great place to visit anytime! Be sure to set your Chesterton visit for a Saturday to take advantage of this unique event.
