Richard Shannon Hoon Grave in Dayton, Indiana

Dayton, Indiana holds a claim to fame as the childhood home of Blind Melon’s Richard Shannon Hoon.

He sang with Guns ‘N Roses and found fame and fortune with his band: Blind Melon. While I wasn’t cool enough to discover their music on my own, I did have friends who loved their stuff.

Unfortunately, a cocaine addiction led to his death in 1995. Now, fans can and do visit his grave site in Dayton, Indiana and, from the looks of it, sometimes leave behind a token of their affection.

Blind Melon: Richard Shannon Hoon Grave

Growing up in the small Indiana town of Dayton, Indiana, Richard Hoon would have had a childhood like the rest of us small towners.

But he didn’t stay small–his talent was discovered by Guns ‘N Roses! Hoon even sang back-up on a couple of tracks before he formed the group Blind Melon.

It’s pretty amazing when you think about it.

I remember listening to Blind Melon. I also remember when he died. It’s nice to see that he’s still remembered in his small town of Dayton, Indiana in Tippecanoe County–and beyond.
