Indiana Blogs: Our Little Monkeys

Indiana Blogs: Our Little Monkeys

Our Little Monkeys is an Indiana blog that will have you screeching with delight!

This busy blog captures the antics of three kids–all under the age of 5! It also serves as a precious reminder of just how fast they grow.

You’ll love the educational opportunities for tots. Dawn, once a second grade teacher, now creates fun (and some free) printables to share with her readers. You’ll have your preschooler laughing (and learning) in no time!

Indiana Blogs: Our Little Monkeys

Why did you start Our Little Monkeys?
I started a blog shortly after the birth of our first child, Alex, almost 5 years ago. Before his birth, I scrapbooked all of our photos. After he was born, I wasn’t making the time to spread out scrapbooking supplies.

I decided, instead, to start a blog to share our photos and stories with friends and family. It has slowly grown into a combination of a family blog and educational resource for preschoolers and moms with little ones.

What about that name? Why Our Little Monkeys?
Originally, the blog was called “Life With Alex”. As our family grew, it was time for a name change!

Thanks to my sister, my boys had lots of adorable monkey shirts…and if you’ve ever spent much time around little ones, you know what cute little monkeys they can be! Somehow, “Our Little Monkeys” just fits our life! J

What are three of your most favorite posts?
It’s so hard to pick favorites, but here are three posts that always make me smile:

What keeps you ready and raring to post? Why do you blog?
The blog was started as a family scrapbook. That is still my main motivation in blogging.

I want to remember the cute and sweet moments (okay…a few not-so-sweet, too!), and we love to look back and remember our family’s activities. I want my kids to know the stories of their childhood, and the blog is great place to record it all!

As for the educational aspect, it’s both a much-needed creative outlet. I taught second grade for nine years before staying home with my kids. I love being home with my kids, but it’s nice to put that college degree to use by designing education materials. This is a fun way for me to help preschool teachers and moms of littles find ways to have a fun learning time with their kids!

You like to create printables and have quite the selection on your blog. How did you get started with that?
Alex was probably about 2.5 or 3 years old, and we liked to do some of the printables that we found on other websites. I wanted to make some specific to his interests, and I thought, “I could do that!”

The first attempts were kind of laughable, but they have (thankfully!) improved over time. There are a lot of great blogs and education websites that have been an inspiration to me.

Is there anything else that you would like little Indiana readers to know?
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17

This blog is all for God’s glory! These three adorable little monkeys of ours are blessings from the Lord. Without HIM, this blog ~ both the family posts and educational posts ~ would never have come to exist. HE gets the glory for these little ones, for the activities I’m blessed to do with the kids, for the ability to design preschool packs, for causing this blog to grow into something special. It’s all for HIM!

Who doesn’t love printables? They make great things to do during car rides–not that we ever do that. Ahem. Thanks to Dawn for coming over to little Indiana and sharing a peek into her busy life!
