We fell in love with the Monon Connection Train Museum in little Monon, Indiana.
Somehow? We let far too much time go by before we tried out the attached Monon Connection Museum Restaurant, The Whistle Stop!

For starters, you could say that the train theme carries out into the restaurant. Trains chug around the ceiling, delighting train-obsessed Kid #2. Not that Kid #1 wasn’t impressed, he just doesn’t feel the need to point it out every time it goes by overhead.
The kids already had a good feeling about this place. He remembered our last visit to Monon, Indiana. Hubs and I looked over the menu while the boys kept themselves busy watching the trains.
Hmm…hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fish sandwich, or…hold the phone. A grilled or a breaded Pork Tenderloin Sandwich! You know I went with the Breaded Tenderloin. Hubs got The Polly Ann, a burger with applewood bacon.

The boys ate their orders while animatedly talking trains. Hubs, I was jealous to see, had ordered a side of Waffle fries! Oh, yum! It made my regular fries seem so…regular.
After the kids finished their meal, they were asked which flavor of ice cream they wanted. Apparently the kid meal comes with a scoop of ice cream. Fun!
Trains and ice cream? Well, this White County restaurant is obviously a big hit with the kids. Just remember that this isn’t fast food, so you will be waiting longer than many of you are probably used to. Go with the small town flow. Sit back, relax, and make yourself at home.

For a place that specializes in all things locomotive, the food was not too shabby!
It’s definitely a place to take the train enthusiast, young or old. I’ve heard tell that I should have saved room for dessert: they make their own pies! Bummer.
