Our stay at the French Lick Springs Resort included morning meals at Grand Colonnade Restaurant. Located in a large and airy room with an amazingly detailed ceiling and fantastic pillars, makes breakfast feel a whole lot more fancy than it is. As a matter of fact, this is a former ballroom! Franklin Delano Roosevelt received the nomination to run for President in 1932 right here.

Just imagine that for a moment. Men and women were dressed in their best and now here we are in shorts, t-shirts, and sandals, ready to bicycle and swim away the day. That’s history for you. I would have liked to see a sign or something that shared this information. I find it interesting and I believe others would too. I would imagine it is not common knowledge.

What is breakfast like at Grand Colonnade Restaurant? Buffet-style dining with a whole slew of options.

You never know exactly what you will find at this French Lick, Indiana restaurant but there are a few things you can be sure of: an assortment of fresh fruit, breakfast staples like bacon and eggs, a row of dry cereals, an omelet station, and some fun little extras.

What kind of extras? You know, fresh whipped cream for waffles or strawberry sauce for pancakes. It’s those little extra touches that make you feel like you are on vacation.

Sometimes, it’s just nice to have a plate of bacon and fresh fruit. I’m only kidding…kind of.

A Casual Breakfast

Things to Do in French Lick, IndianaIf you are spending a few days (or longer) at French Lick Springs Resort in French Lick, Indiana, this is the place to go for a relaxing and unhurried meal–if you didn’t bring the kids along, that is.

We always appreciate having choices for the boys and the Grand Colonnade Restaurant certainly doesn’t disappoint when it comes to kid-friendly options.

At the time of this writing, kids may eat free with a paying guest. Kids must be twelve years old or under to eat free. If a child is with a paying adult who is not an overnight guest, the child will be charged half price.

I can’t include a menu for you this time because, given the nature of the buffet, the offerings change daily. Call ahead to find out what is being served or just rest assured that there’s plenty of variety no matter when you visit.
