After meeting with a group to discuss small town issues at Jefferson Street Barbecue in Converse, Indiana we really got down to business: lunch. We had been smelling that yummy goodness for hours by this point, so I was more than ready to dig in at this Grant County restaurant. I couldn’t wait–and my husband was ready for a taste test too.

As someone who would never have counted herself among barbecue lovers, it makes a huge difference when it comes out of a commercial smoker in a small Indiana town. It can be cut with a fork.

This time around, it was just my husband, Jeremy, and I. we were with a small group, discussing small town matters. We had the chance to listen to what these residents were doing to stimulate visits to their town–and to push shopping and dining local.

It was nice to kick back, relax, and enjoy a quiet lunch with like-minded folks. During our visit to Jefferson Street BBQ, we had a really tough time deciding what to order. Our group said that everything was good, so we couldn’t even narrow it down that way. After careful consideration, my husband choose the Pulled Pork Wrap and I requested the Beef Brisket sandwich.

All the sides at Jefferson Street Barbecue are homemade right there in the restaurant. How could we decide between homemade potato salad, coleslaw, smoked baked beans, mac n’ cheese, and green beans with smoked bacon?

But somehow–we did. I love cheese so I ordered the mac n’ cheese and my husband quickly claimed dibs on the potato salad. He’s such a fan of potato salad. He was curious how they would make theirs.

What a delicious lunch it was. While my beef brisket was very good, my husband’s Pulled Pork Wrap was out of this world, and the star of this lunch in my opinion. It’s hard to believe something so seemingly simple could be that memorable–but it definitely, definitely was. Either way you go–you’ll find good grub at this Grant County restaurant.
