Why do so many folks think you need to head out of state to find the best barbecue when there are wonderful restaurants like Jefferson Street Barbecue in Converse, Indiana? All the side items are made from scratch right here. The pork is smoked on the premises so you know the whole town smells fabulous because of it. This is the way barbecue is done.

This Converse, Indiana BBQ joint opened May 5, 2012. Let me tell you: it looks like something straight from the web pages of popular photo “pinning” site Pinterest. It’s very sharp. Just look at those light fixtures. I love it. There’s corrugated metal along the front of the counter and a section of the walls. The floors are wood, everything is painted very nicely, and it is very clean. There’s just a really nice atmosphere here.

Did I not yet mention that there is even a wine and beer menu? Now that is just fun. The way the inside looks, it was made to be the kind of place where you want to linger a little bit with good friends over good food and drinks. But the food is the star here as well it should be.

The Pulled Pork Wrap was memorable and definitely what I would recommend. In fact, I could go for one right about now. One look at the images from this Indiana town restaurant down below and I think you will, too.

The popular menu items include the barbecue pulled pork sandwich, the beef brisket, and the wrap. Mmm…the wrap. I know you will enjoy the food here–and the homemade sides.

Edited to Add: Since my visit, Jefferson Street Barbecue has made some changes. They are now offering local-sourced, sustainable meats and vegetables whenever possible. They have partnered with area farms, like Hunt Family Farm in Amboy, Travis Flora Farms in Flora, and Green River Greenhouse in Peru.

Do you want to know the changing specials? How about events? Maybe a change of menu? You know what to do. Follow Jefferson Street Barbecue on Facebook.

Menus do change so please call ahead if you have your heart set on something specific, just to make sure it is still on the menu. It goes without saying, but here it goes anyway, do realize that food prices rise and that the prices seen here may change by the time you make your visit.
