Since 1953, Dairy Dream in Albany, Indiana has been the place to go when you need an ice cream fix. The required “research” for this Indiana town ice cream shop was a “dream” come true. On a hot day, there’s nothing better.

When you see an ice cream shop that looks like it stepped out of the early 1950’s, you really have no other choice than to go check it out.

Gladly, we did. Dairy Dream in Delaware County was absolutely hopping which is always a really good sign.

Kids were appearing right out of the woodwork. Families and teenagers and singles and…everyone and their brother was here getting ice cream. With a sweet location right next to a ball field, well, that would certainly help move those long T-ball games right along.

How ever would I decide? Hand-dipped flavors like Cookie Dough and Amaretto Cherry were tempting but then there were also a selection of sundaes. Caramel Apple Sundae and Raspberry Fudge, and Spencer’s Strawberryana.

There’s also orange sherbet or pineapple sorbet (the flavors switch out every ten days). How did I forget to mention the homemade milkshakes? Black Raspberry, Blueberry, Peanut Butter, and Chocolate are just a few of their homemade milkshake offerings.

In the end, I ordered the banana split–but hold the nuts. It was excellent! It also makes me want to try the “Pig Dip” the Dairy Dream banana split but with an extra sundae mound and also topped with their homemade Black Raspberry topping. Sounds great, right?

My husband got the large Peanut Butter Milkshake and, I tell you what, it was humongous. We cracked jokes about it all night. He didn’t mind because it was just that amazing.

I love that this has been a family owned Indiana ice cream shop (and then some) for three generations–and that they have their eyes on the fourth, who need a little more time to grow up.

They serve food, fast as well but I was more concerned with the ice cream even though they are known for their homemade Sloppy Joe Sandwiches. It’s not very often you find homemade anything–unless you happen to be at Dairy Dream in Albany, Indiana.
