Folks have gathered at Hinkle’s Sandwich Shop and Family Restaurant in Madison, Indiana since 1933. Decades of locals have enjoyed Hinkle’s traditional grilled onions and pickle hamburgers–and we happily joined their ranks.

These aren’t just any burgers at this Indiana town hangout. At Hinkle’s Sandwich Shop in downtown Madison, you are served mini burgers. You know the kind I mean–but these aren’t anything like fast food. They are the cutest and most delicious handful of hamburger you will ever have the chance to enjoy.
Paired with a side of fries made just one mini hamburger enough for our three year old.
As for the rest of us, we dug in. I had to order the Breaded Pork Tenderloin Sandwich. This Hoosier staple was fried up just fine at Hinkle’s–though the melty cheese on those mini burgers sure did catch my eye. I may have had to try a bite or two for research.

But more than burgers and fries, there’s also a nice large sign on the wall with a big list of milkshakes. Now that’s the kind of menu I enjoy. What’s a burger and fries without a milkshake? Disappointing, that’s what. Here, you don’t have to worry about that part of things.
From “A” to “Z,” Hinkle’s Sandwich Shop has you covered–when it comes to milkshakes! Almond Joy, Blueberry, Chocolate Mocha, Cream Soda, Milky Way, Peanut Butter, Peppermint Patty, Strawberry Shortcake, Wedding Cake, and Zero are just a few of the offerings.
We ordered Dreamsicle for Kid #1, Chocolate for Kid #2, while my husband, Jeremy, and I tried to make a quick decision. In the end, he went with Peanut Butter (I was not surprised) and I chose the Banana Split milkshake.
They were awesome. We need to return just so we can “test” the other flavors.

Hinkle’s Sandwich Shop and Family Restaurant in Madison, Indiana is a great Jefferson County restaurant. Head there for the mini burgers, for the fun counter seating, for the local flair–and definitely, definitely the milkshakes.
