From April through November, there is tree-top high fun to be had at Squire Boone Caverns Zipline Adventure in Mauckport, Indiana!

Soar through the trees at this Southern Indiana attraction.

Adults aren’t the only ones who get the chance to zipline! There’s a zipline just for kids! Kids that don’t quite meet the adult height and weight requirements don’t need to miss out!

Kid #1, well, we nicknamed him “gazelle” for a reason–he’s all arms and legs! He exceeds the suggested age (they say 7 and he is 8) but as to the required weight, 65 lbs., well, that could be awhile.

So, while my husband, Jeremy, was getting ready to tackle the adult zipline, BOTH of the boys were thrilled to learn that there is a new zipline just for kids between 30 and 60 pounds. They chattered excitedly while waiting for Dad to get done already so they could go!

Gearing Up for the Indiana Zipline

For anyone concerned about safety (and who isn’t) the Squire Boone Caverns Zipline follows the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) standards for installation, maintenance, and operation. It is the world’s largest American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accredited Standards Developer that deal with the challenge course industry.

Everything you need is provided. The zipline is intended for those between the weights of 65-250 pounds. The harness has a 42″ waist. You need to be at least seven years old to use the Canopy Zip or the Quick Zip.

My husband put on a full body harness, a trolley, Lobster claw, tether, gloves, and a helmet. He was all decked out and ready to go on the course. The guides at this Harrison County attraction begin with the basics. Ziplining folks get to do a trial run on a small, low to the ground zipline, to make sure they understand how to slow down and stop before they move along to the real thing that can, at time, put you fifty feet up in the air.

My husband, given his day job on the Indiana wind farm that runs along I65, is familiar with tying off and he picked up the rest of it quickly! You are clipped to a 1/2″ steel cable the entire time.

Then? After the short practice run was over and they saw that he had the instructions down-pat, he got to get on the real thing! The boys and I hurried along a path in order to watch. The guides encourage you to yell or scream as you go down what seems like ever longer and ever faster ziplines. While I know I would have been screaming for dear life, my husband gave a little holler and away he went!

After the second Indiana zipline was over and done, the guides shared that this is the point that lets them know if folks can handle it or not. As you can see in the video below–my husband certainly handled it! Our boys couldn’t wait to go! They are both so brave.

What to Wear to an Indiana Zipline

At Squire Boone Zipline Adventure, and, really, any zipline, you want to make sure you are wearing the right thing. While they will provide you with what you need, remember that your every day clothing shouldn’t be anything that gets in the way.

Don’t wear sandals. There’s no open toe footwear allowed. Hiking boots or sneakers are fine, but make sure they are comfortable. Tuck in any long shirts. Keep the short shorts at home. You want them to be at least mid-thigh or you may wear jeans. Long hair should be tied back so it can’t get caught up in anything. Sunglasses are okay.

Squire Boone Zipline Adventures does offer coupon codes and group rates, so be sure to look into that to save yourself a couple of bucks.

There’s nothing cuter than a 4 year old suited up and ready to go on a zipline (and with his socks pulled up to his knees because he likes them like that). Both of our boys really enjoyed it and urge other kids to give it a try, too.

Everyone is so nice and polite they will really put you at ease. They were excellent with the kids, and with my husband, and helped make the experience for all of them.

At the time of this writing Squire Boone Caverns Zipline Adventure is open March through November. Always call ahead before heading out in case of weather as they will close in case of lightning or high winds. Cold weather is still a “go!” Just dress warmly.
