Margarita’s Bar & Grill in Valparaiso, Indiana
We were in the mood for Mexican food and decided to go to downtown Valparaiso, Indiana and try Margarita’s. Margarita’s features a bar area with televisions — an area separated from the booths and tables in the dining area.
The diverse menu at this excellent Porter County restaurant featured a variety of food and drink options.
One of my dining companions got a pork taco and a cheese quesadilla, while my other dining companion ordered the taco platter — opting for one beef taco, one steak taco and one pork taco.
I choose the fish tacos, getting two of them topped with a tasty slaw and one topped with a spicier pico de gallo. My fish tacos were tasty, and I think I prefer the slaw topping. My fellow diners favored the pork tacos and steak tacos over the beef one.

Our lunch was so filling we didn’t get desserts! Our bill totaled just $28 for three people.
Margarita’s prices were a pleasant surprise, since one often pays a little more for the downtown dining experience.
I should mention that the first Thursday of every month is “Eat Up, Wine Down” in downtown Valparaiso. Many of the downtown restaurants offer $5 pricing on five of their drinks, dishes or desserts from 5 to 10 p.m.
It’s a good way to sample downtown dining for less right here in Northern Indiana.
