Well, actually, you first notice the Porter County restaurant’s inviting, sophisticated ambiance and the artistic, delicious food. Then you notice the restaurant’s name, which, like the restaurant itself, is unique.

dish restaurant has earned a place in my list of top restaurants by providing a relaxing, pleasant experience with great food and great service every time I go.
dish was recently named one of 17 Porter County restaurants on Midwest Living magazine’s Indiana Dunes Country Culinary Tour. Midwest Living wrote, “Working in an open kitchen, chefs create updated American classics…What sets dish apart is the excellent service and smart menu that changes with the seasons.”
The lunch options at dish range from a chicken wrap, to a crab cake sandwich to macaroni and cheese with ham. But one of the best choices is their box lunch, which featured a sandwich, soup, salad and dessert served to your table in a wooden box. The box lunch changes often.

Each dinner meal at this Northern Indiana restaurant starts with delicious bread and butter. Then comes the to-die-for appetizers — I always go for a spinach and beet salad and/or crab cakes. My favorite meal is the turmeric and sweet chili shrimp with coconut basmati rice and sweet peas.
The first time I got it I had them serve it with tender-crisp asparagus instead of peas — and it was awesome. I forgot to make the substitution the last time I ordered it — and it was awesome.
During our most recent visit, my dining partner chose (and loved) the 12-ounce grilled pork chop with goat cheese potato custard, asparagus and blueberry chutney.

dish Restaurant isn’t in Valparaiso’s flourishing downtown or in the busy shopping area on the city’s east side. But despite being a little out of the way — in a small business plaza on north Calumet Avenue — dish Restaurant has been a favorite for years.
dish is a good choice for special occasions and for everyday dining.
