Red Pepperoni Pizzeria in Madison, Indiana

Red Pepperoni Pizzeria in Madison, Indiana

The Red Pepperoni Pizzeria in Madison may sound familiar to anyone that’s been through Madison before. The Red Pepperoni Pizzeria is the sister shop to The Red Pepper Deli and Cafe.

It is easy to find.  No, really. It’s actually located directly across the street.

Pizza shops have taken up shop in this downtown Madison, Indiana location before, but with an emphasis on homemade sauces, fresh ingredients, and a really nice atmosphere, this is the one that will “stick.”

Red Pepperoni Pizzeria is where the locals go! How do I know? Well, little Indiana and family met up with Madison resident, formerly featured Indiana Blogger, and all-around brilliant writer, Robyn Ryle. At her suggestion, we met up at The Red Pepperoni Pizzeria at the tail-end of our trip.

It’s easy to see why. Not only do they dish out excellent slices of pizza but…they also serve a decent selection of cold, craft beer including Indiana beers. Yay! It’s not a boast every small town pizza parlor can make. It is most certainly a plus.

But the lure of adult beverages and convenient location aside, the pizza makes the visit worthwhile.

Their specialty pizzas include:

  • The RPD Special, a pepperoni, sausage, onions, mushrooms, green peppers pizza
  • The Greek, a fresh garlic, onions, banana peppers, feta, black olives, and spinach pizza.
  • The Sicilian, a sausage, capicola, salami, pepperoni, giardiniera, parmesan, and mozzarella pizza.

I seriously considered both the Roasted Artichoke Pizza, spinach artichoke spread, artichokes, garlic, spinach, mozzarella, parmesan, or the Thai Chicken, Thai peanut sauce, chicken, carrots, red peppers, onions.

But, my husband and I had to get the White Pizza: pesto sauce, sun-dried tomatoes, onions, mozzarella, feta, gouda, spinach. Back when we lived near Charleston, South Carolina, we used to get the most fabulous pizza from a little independent place (of course). We have never met its Indiana match and I’m always on the hunt for something that lives up to it.

The White Pizza at The Red Pepperoni was very good–and laden with stuff! No skimping on the feta cheese here! Mmm! Our boys were equally happy with their Pepperoni Pizza. It sure looked great.

Pizzeria in Downtown Madison

Make your way down to the West end of Main Street for pizza, calzones, and even an assortment of entrees like Sub sandwiches, Stromboli, and pasta. I have heard that the wings are particularly great appetizers.

It feels a bit like a sports bar inside with the large flat screen TV’s dominating the walls and the more masculine feel to the decor–but it is still a kid-friendly place.

Small Towns: Destinations, not Drive-Thrus. I’m Jessica Nunemaker and THIS is Little Indiana.

Just don’t forget to tell them that Little Indiana sent you.
