One of the advantages of living in a college town, especially when the college draws a sizable international population, is that interesting new dining choices start to appear.
Such is the case with Barada Kabob in Valparaiso, Indiana, which opened near Valparaiso University.
Barada Kabob in Valparaiso, Indiana
Barada Kabob features a variety of choices that are commonly served in the Mediterranean and Middle East, including shawarma, falafel, hummus and tabbouleh. Best of all, most of the items on the menu are only about $3 and take just minutes to serve.
I decided to try the falafel, which is fried spiced ground chickpeas wrapped in their saj bread. I also ordered hummus, which is ground chickpeas and olive oil served with pita bread, as well as the Barada cheese, which is fried puff pastry stuffed with cheese and parsley.
My wife got the Barada platter, which features two vertically-grilled beef skewers served over basmati rice, with sides of hummus and tabbouleh (a parsley-based salad).
