Where does a couple go when one person likes steak and the other likes seafood and sushi?

If you’re in Valparaiso, Indiana, you stop by Tommy B’s Steaks, Seafood and Sushi. In addition to steak and seafood, they serve flatbreads, soups, salads, sandwiches, pasta and chicken.

In the past few years, downtown Valparaiso has exploded with food choices, and now includes Mexican, Spanish, Mediterranean, Chinese, Italian and  farm-to-fork food. Then there are a few, like Tommy B’s, that offer a little something for everyone.

Tommy B’s is in a charming old building with exposed brick in the dining area and tin ceilings. There is a cascading waterfall that separates the dining area from the kitchen, so you can look through the water to see your meal being prepared. There is a full bar and different dining areas, like the bright window section up front and the intimate areas in the center and back of the restaurant. Oldies from groups like The Temptations and The Shirelles filled the air as we dined.

The service is attentive and friendly and the menu is full of interesting takes on classic dishes. For example, my wife ordered their Surf and Turf Eggs Benedict, which was one English muffin topped with grilled filet mignon and another topped with lobster meat. Both English muffins were topped with generous portions of meat, eggs and hollandaise sauce. It was served with potato galette (a potato patty made with regular and sweet potatoes), a fruit cup and baked apples.

Since we were at Tommy B’s around Sunday brunch time, I opted for the spinach and lobster quiche, but couldn’t resist also ordering a sushi trio with spicy tuna, California and veggie rolls. Ordering a sampler is a great way to try different sushi rolls when one can’t decide. We enjoyed our selections and were pleased to know we could get steak, sushi and more.

Sunday brunch is an economical way to enjoy Tommy B’s, and you can time your visit to take advantage of their specials, like buy one/get one half off appetizers on Wednesdays, or buy one/get one half off sushi and select $6 rolls on Thursdays.
