Let The Cake Bake Shop in Indianapolis, Indiana, in the Broad Ripple area be your dose of sunshine on a cold, snowy, winter day.
I opened the door to a little French cottage nestled in Broad Ripple Village to find a warm and inviting place.
The Cake Bake Shop in Indianapolis, Indiana
Bakers donned French ruffled aprons and they filled glass cases with splendid multi-layered cakes covered in clouds of lush frosting. Glitter atop cupcakes sparkled under crystal chandeliers. Warm fresh-baked cookies danced in my mind.
In this storybook setting I moved to a cozy seat near the fireplace and sat on a bench amidst soft pillows where I sipped on a flute of champagne.
I ordered a slice of the Salted Caramel Cake and a glass of Saint-Hilarie Brut Sparkling Wine. Around us friends laughed, two school-aged girls held a tea party, and a family of five shared a special moment.
Broad Ripple Cake Shop
The Cake Bake Shop opened on November 15, 2014. Gwendolyn Rogers, the owner, has always had a love affair with baking and Paris…..La Duree in Paris was her first inspiration, but The Cake Bake Shop has been her vision since she began.
Gwen is a self-taught baker and chef who has been baking her entire life….she moved to Indy about 8 years ago from Sun Valley, Idaho with her husband and three kids. Her husband was born and raised here and they wanted their children to attend his alma mater, Park Tudor.
She began taking her baked goods to dinner parties and giving them as teacher gifts and everyone would tell her she should open her own place, and now The Cake Bake Shop is here!
The shop’s most popular items are the Earl’s Court Chocolate Cake, which she won the Cake Show in London Best Cake Award for, as well as our Southern Style Caramel Cake. Since winning the London competition, Rogers’ cupcakes have made a cameo in the “Dumb and Dumber To” flick, and she personally delivered her famous chocolate cake backstage to Elton John following a concert in Paris.
She has become somewhat of a rock star herself.
Her sea salt chocolate chip cookie is a piece of heaven itself, and the french macarons are always a popular seller. As far as pies go, they always sell out of their Chocolate Cream Pie, as well as the Cherry and Apple pies.

Soup and sandwich options also are available at her shop, along with coffee, hot chocolate, champagne and wine. But her signature cakes get the most attention.
Large cakes typically run $95, and small cakes $65. As I sat enjoying every last bite of a slice of caramel cake, I looked outside at the snow falling and decided to order another dessert at The Cake Bake Shop in Broad Ripple.
