This Jefferson County lodging option is so cute! I just want to pick it up and put it in my pocket.

From the cozy living room to the adorable kitchen and spacious balcony, it has all the basics you need (yes, even a coffee maker and coffee)!

Head down the stairs and you’ll discover a quiet log-lined room. It was the perfect place for our boys to sleep. Next to that lies a sitting room with access to the garden area outside.

Dove Cottage Guest House in Madison, Indiana

I don’t want you to think that it’s so teeny tiny that you will bump into you and yours while walking around inside because it isn’t that small! It’s just big enough for four people. Kind of like the story of the three bears, it felt “just right.”

My husband, Jeremy, and I really liked that the kids had a space downstairs to giggle and play with their race cars without being underfoot.

There isn’t a TV in the upstairs living room but that didn’t bother us one bit. It’s located downstairs but since I’m an early riser, I like to get ready in the morning without worrying about waking up everyone. It was so nice to spend a quiet evening reading our latest finds from That Book Place bookstore.

It’s very relaxing. You can see the river from the living room door. It would be really nice to hang out on the back deck in the warmer months.

There is a two night minimum here but really, there is so much to see and do in this spectacular Indiana town that you will need all the time you can get!

I’ve had my nose in a book ever since my return from That Book Place in Madison, Indiana!

If you enjoy saving a few bucks (and in this economy, who doesn’t) then you will love the huge gently used selection of books at this Jefferson County book store.

You know that bookstore smell? Someone needs to figure out how to bottle it. I just love it!

I also love rows and rows and ROWS of books. Every genre, every kind of author, and, get this: they are alphabetized, too. I know, that’s rather impressive.

My husband took off looking for a series he’s been hooked on while I took the boys to the floor to ceiling shelves that housed the children’s books.

They were thrilled!

Looking at all the kids books really brought back some memories! The Babysitter’s Club series, Cam Jansen, and one of my favorites as a kid: Behind the Attic Wall by Sylvia Cassedy. So many of my much-loved books of an earlier time were all right here!

I browsed around. The children’s section is easy to spot so I could keep half an eye on the kids while meandering around the rest of the shop.

Wow. What a shop it is! There are so many shelves of books and then, when the shelves were groaning too much…there’s a whole bunch of bins, too!

Everywhere you look are incredible books at amazing prices. It kind of makes you want to buy them all, you know?

I love a great Indiana bookstore and That Book Place is certainly on that list! Madison, Indiana is lucky to have such a find!

It’s not hard to see why: large windows overlook the river, the service is friendly, the menu is full of delicious seafood, and the lighting is dim.

But this Madison, Indiana restaurant also a family-friendly place! Our boys were given “star” treatment. The kids menu that could be colored was a big hit with Kid #1. But not a big hit as dessert! Key Lime Pie and Whiskey Bread Pudding! Oh my goodness good!

As little Indiana and family stepped inside Harriet’s Knit Knook in Madison, Indiana, I think we all said our own take on the word “Nice!”

It is wall to wall knitting supplies–and then some!

Who knew that yarn could come in so very many colors? It was really amazing.

Hubs did a quick loop and herded back outside with Kid #2. The little one didn’t share our enthusiasm.

Kid #1 really liked looking at all the colors. The rows and shelves and baskets of colors!

It really amazes him to see finished works and to think that people made them all by themselves–and not machines.

There’s a definite move of Hoosiers getting back to their roots, of learning how to be more self-sufficient, and less dependent on everyone for every little thing in Indiana towns.

What’s more, folks can get involved in classes from small sweaters to scarves to wine bottle hats. At this Jefferson County shop, there’s a lot going on!

Although knitting may be the center of it all, there’s other fiber arts supplies located here as well like crocheting supplies, patterns and books, highlighters, tape measures, and more.

Downtown Madison, Indiana holds a fabric and notions store and more: Margie’s Country Store.

You’d never guess that this warm and lovely space was once a butcher shop back when it was built in 1850!

Today, this fun shop houses all the things you need to make your own quilts, blankets, clothing, and then some.

The first floor is a rainbow of color! Fabric and thread line the warm wooden shelves. Finished products nestle here and there among the bolts of brightly patterned cottons.

It’s inspiring for those of us non-sewers in the crowd. Just wait until you see what’s in the basement!

There’s more than sewing items in this Jefferson County shop! Venture down the stairs into the basement and prepare to be awed by the gorgeous country decor.

Seriously, this is amazing. Candles, garden decor, dishware, table settings, and plenty of awesome gift items…there’s so much here! It’s a very nicely-sized series of rooms that just get better the further you go!

The brick is so pretty. Really, this is just a super nice space and a great complement to the items held inside.

I found some seasonal items at a steal. Even hubs was impressed!
