We’ve covered the main course at Schnick’s Good Eats in Wheatfield, Indiana. But what haven’t I shown you yet? Dessert!

Oh, we’ve talked about it a little. But, as they say, seeing is believing! The Peach Cobbler was our first choice–only because we’d heard it was so good! Well, it must be, because they had a second batch in the oven.

So, we got Strawberry Shortcake for all of us. Yum! As you can see below, Schnick’s Good Eats is REALLY good!

Schnick’s Good Eats in Wheatfield, Indiana is aptly named. little Indiana has received more than one email citing it as a “can’t miss” restaurant and you know what? They were right!

Schnick’s Good Eats in Wheatfield

Located in the old Wheatfield downtown, you probably wouldn’t even know it was here! Lucky for you–you’ve got little Indiana.

Kidding aside, walking into this place we couldn’t believe how busy it was. Various sports memorabilia lined the walls and folks were taking up almost every seat. That’s always a good sign.

We actually had to wait a bit to be seated. It’s a small, cozy place so when a couple came in after us, we decided to leave the bustling dining room for a spot outside. Talk about a gorgeous Indiana day!

We had the pleasant outdoor seating area all to ourselves! Since it was fenced in, Kid #2 could roam without bothering anyone.

What are You Having

I’ve heard good things about the Beef Manhattan and the Meatloaf but we were in a more sandwich and lunch type mood. When everything sounds so good on the menu there’s only one thing to do…we asked our server for suggestions.

Her recommendation? The Italian Beef sandwich. She said that everything is good but that people love that one.

I claimed dibs while hubs finished making up his mind. He chose The Works Burger–Swiss cheese, mushrooms, and peppers. The kids got Chicken Fingers and a Corn Dog with a side of applesauce.

The Arrival

Do you see that thing of beauty over there? That Italian Beef sandwich tasted as good as it looks! The fries were simply awesome.

Hubs and the kids were equally enamored over their choices. Which means? That Schnick’s Good Eats, in a very small Indiana town, delivered as promised.

But we didn’t stop there! This is little Indiana–which means it isn’t over until dessert! I’ve heard about their Peach Cobbler but they were out! So…we made a swap.

First, I want you to imagine red, ripe strawberries. Got it? Now imagine them piled on top and around golden shortbread and doused it all in whipped cream. Strawberry Shortcake.

Hubs, who had earlier proclaimed he was not all that hungry for dessert proceeded to eat his share and then come after the remaining! So, yes. You could say it was the perfect ending to our lunch.

Eat at Schnick’s

They really do mean “good eats.” The four of us had a nice leisurely lunch. We would certainly go back–I’d love to try their Pork Tenderloin Sandwich!

One taste of the Sweet Potato Fries at Luke’s Kitchen in Wheatfield, Indiana and I am now craving them constantly. If you are looking for a great Pork Tenderloin Sandwich–Here’s a winner!

Luke’s Kitchen in Wheatfield, Indiana

How did I not know about the existence of a fry such as these? I mean, I love fries! I love Sweet Potatoes! It’s only natural that I should have created a version of my own. Who knew I’d find them in this small Indiana town?

little Indiana and husband (minus the children—hooray!) headed to Luke’s Kitchen in sprawled out (but small) Wheatfield, Indiana to see what this little place had to offer!

Just so you know and don’t walk around all confusedly (we didn’t do that. Nope. Not at all), you order at the big counter window and then get your drinks over to the left of the counter. Way over to the left of the counter.

You may not have seen it at first so just take a couple steps backward and you can’t miss it!

Luke’s Kitchen Menu

Luke’s Kitchen has pizza (yay!) and fried chicken. There’s even changing daily specials to choose from. I love a good deal.

I had a fantastic Pork Tenderloin with a side of the day’s special (yes, that would be the Sweet Potato Fries). Hubs ordered the Fried Chicken and he really enjoyed it. I didn’t try any. I hate having to work for my food and Fried Chicken requires too much “hand-on labor.” I make a big enough mess as it is.

He really regretted not getting the Sweet Potato Fries after I let him try one. I grudgingly, grumblingly shared a few of mine with him.

Outdoor Eating

Want to know a fun Luke’s Kitchen feature? They also have a little outside eating area which would certainly be a nice spot to sit and eat if you’ve been stuck in the car for hours and hours.

I would definitely take advantage of that if I were on a small town road trip and needed to stretch my legs. It could also help keep down the mess/embarrassment when you combine kids and food (or maybe that’s just us).

Next Time

I’d really like to try Luke’s Kitchen pizza. You know my love affair with pizza! But then again–those fries were so good. Would a large cheese pizza with a side of sweet potato fries be strange?

When you find good pizza like at Marcella’s Pizza in Wheatfield, Indiana, you just have to share!

So, let me just say, that no one could have been more surprised than I was when I took a look at Marcella’s Pizza’s menu.

Spinach, Tomato, and Garlic with Alfredo Sauce Pizza, Garlic Shrimp Pizza, and even a Philly Cheesesteak Pizza.

This small Indiana town pizza shop even has deep dish pizza! How ever does a pizzaholic decide? She leaves it up to her hubby and hopes for the best.

We got the Spinach, Tomato, and Garlic with Alfredo Sauce Pizza on a thin crust and ordered a 7” Sausage for the kid. We had to have a side of their famous garlic rolls too.

There was a coloring book and crayons for the kid, though the fun decor of the place kept him entertained for quite some time!

Airplanes, blimps, and I don’t know what all hang from the ceiling. The walls are covered in travel-related items like luggage, chintzy plates, postcards, and posters. Don’t worry–it wasn’t obnoxious like at those big box chain restaurants with the too-loud music.

The kid refused to touch the garlic rolls (he was in quite the mood that day) but they were pretty good.

I scarfed them down and longingly gazed at what hubs hadn’t finished. He wasn’t moved.

Then came the pizza…wowza. It was a thing of beauty. A more sensitive soul may break down in tears after sampling this stuff.

Okay, maybe that’s taking it a bit too far, but I ate an embarrassingly large amount of this pizza. It was just. that. GOOD! Like, craving good, even!

I sampled the kid’s (all in the name of research, I swear!) and it was yummy as well. He definitely enjoyed it, grading it “delicious.”

Oh, and for all you cold pizza lovers out there…the Spinach, Tomato, and Garlic Pizza was still very good after a night in the fridge. Bonus!

Wheatfield, Indiana: A Worthy Pass-Through

Wheatfield Indiana is very spread out. The “true” downtown area is a cluster of half a dozen buildings that include a restaurant, a gym, a daycare, and that’s about it.

They are very tucked away in the oldest part of town. You can easily get there if you keep your eyes peeled for surrounding streets like South Bierma or South Main Street.

I wouldn’t plan on making Wheatfield your sole destination because there isn’t that much here.

For example, you won’t find any bed and breakfasts in this small Indiana town. However, it would certainly make a nice place to stop for something to eat and to do a bit of browsing!

Restaurants in Wheatfield

Downtown in Wheatfield, Indiana

There are several area restaurants in and around Wheatfield. A rather surprising number, really, when you get a feel for the town.

Most are your standard burger with fries, American-style (whatever that means) fare. They are also very good.At least, the ones I’ve tried so far!

As much as they bear a resemblance to each other–each one is unique and has something special to bring to the table. Literally.

Somehow, they are all located at quite some distance apart from each other. There’s Luke’s Kitchen, Schnick’s Good Eats, and Marcella’s Pizza to name a few.

Always make sure to ask what on the menu is homemade–because that is definitely what you want to be ordering!

Roaming around the town, you’ll find a smattering of one-of-a-kind shops, which I love. Used clothing, flowers, even electronics. I just can’t pass up a good deal! Really, it’s almost a sickness.
