This enormous mom and pop business offers a huge selection of stuff–and you will find something you just can’t live without. Consider yourself warned.

Pulling up into the spacious parking lot in this small Indiana town, you can’t miss all the stuff.

Kids toys take up a whole lot of space: from riders to walkers to trikes and bikes, any kid of any age could probably find something to bring home! Once you head inside, you’ll find even more kid and baby things–starting with a massive rack devoted to clothing and loads of toys.

But it’s not all about the kids. There are racks of name brand adult clothing, shoes, home decor, a smattering of Indiana antiques, and so much more.

You may not know it, but I love board games. I mean, I love board games!

We have quite a collection and a day doesn’t go by that I don’t play something with my kids or the kids next door. Whomever I can get.

So when I saw a sign labeled “All games $1″ you better believe I put down the camera and rifled. Oh, and purchased! What a deal.

I just couldn’t pass up the chance to add in a few vintage games to our rotation. How fun is that?

The owner of Twice is Nice says she receives a lot of traffic from the nearby campground–folks who forgot to bring a certain item and hope to find a gently used replacement.

But I can tell you this: There’s nothing skimpy about this giant shop. At six years old, this mom and pop is going strong!

If shelves, racks, and boxes full of things just waiting to be looked over sounds like a good time to you, then Twice is Nice is the shop for which you’ve been waiting!

Walking around downtown Madison, Indiana, an old-fashioned looking fruit cart caught my eye.

So in we stepped to A. Dattilo Fruit Company in the heart of Madison.

I felt like I stepped into an episode of Sesame Street! A green grocer right downtown? Incredible!

What was even more incredible were the prices and selection. But I guess after being around for so many years: you know what you are doing.

For over eighty years they’ve been keeping this Indiana town (and beyond) well stocked in fresh fruit and veggies.

An Apple a Day

A. Dattilo Fruit Company: Madison, Indiana

Here at A. Dattilo Fruit Company, you are surrounded by Indiana history. I don’t just mean the sheer age of this Indiana fruit market, either.

You can’t not notice the town memorabilia posted up around the walls. What great photos!

That’s what I love about small business like this one in Jefferson County, those mom and pop shops.

There aren’t any strict guidelines to follow, no corporate rules to go by–if it’s something that a small biz owner likes and enjoys…they put it up.

To me, that’s infinitely more interesting! It’s never been more apparent than here.

Boner Bridge is a phenomenal bridge.

This Indiana bridge is very tucked away in Hatfield, Indiana–but completely worth the trip. We got lost as usual, but wow–what a bridge.

Still in use today, it’s an amazing Indiana attraction. They just don’t make ‘em like they used to!

So pop in, give yourself time to browse–and make sure to leave a bit of time to chit chat with the owner. After all, one of the perks of mom and pop shops are the people!

A co-op of artists, it’s also your go-to Hendricks County locale to take classes of all kinds and to shop these diverse Indiana artists!

This building has such a great feel. There’s excellent lighting and certainly phenomenal decor! When you walk in, you are entirely surrounded by all sorts of fabulous art.

From nature photography to portraits, they’ve got a nice representation of various fields.

But for me, the best part is seeing how many fantastic Hoosier artists are in the area!

Indiana Art Gallery

Yes, there are a lot of paintings and pictures on the (exposed brick!) walls, but it’s the shelving here, there, and everywhere inside this Indiana town gallery that’s really impressive.

It’s loaded with products of all kinds made and produced by Hoosiers.

Jewelry, ceramics, wood, fibers, metal, and more–there’s probably a talented artist here working with it!

Gallery on the Square: Danville, Indiana

It might seem unusual to find the arts in a small town. But for those of you that regularly follow along in the adventures of little Indiana and family, you’ve probably noticed a real push back to the basics: supporting local.

Gallery on the Square is a superb gallery. The small town prices feel pretty good too!

Rotating events throughout the year, including wine tastings and live music, once again prove that the arts are very much alive in little Indiana–and that there is far more to Hoosier life than corn and race cars!

French Lick Winery in West Baden Springs, Indiana is such an amazing Indiana attraction!

My wine knowledge is limited to this: wine is made of grapes and I like a sweeter wine. That’s about it.

I was a bit apprehensive about attending a wine tasting. Sure, I’d checked out the Wine and Cheese Shoppe in Wabash, Indiana–but I’d talked to those folks so many times that I felt comfortable with them.

For an actual winery, I was concerned I’d feel a little silly at my lack of wine know-how.

The people at French Lick Winery were so knowledgeable and friendly. I didn’t need to worry at all! Best of all–they have an entire list of wines that you can taste for free.

But more than just tasting wine, the sommelier gives you a bit of the background.

Sip by sip, we found out what wines won what awards, what that means, and also more about the wine itself.

We learned about the “notes” we were tasting, the age of the wine, and so much more than my brain can hold at any one time!

It was definitely educational and really interesting. Did I mention good, too?

Indiana Winery: French Lick Winery Wine Tasting

Helpful and informative, you’ll find the wine-tasting experience at French Lick Winery to be a fun experience!

Here I thought I didn’t like many wines and yet there wasn’t a single French Lick wine I tasted that I didn’t enjoy. I guess I need to stick to Indiana wines!

It is kid-friendly. They have crayons and coloring books to keep little ones occupied so you can try a sip or two and carry on your way through lovely Orange County.

Dubois County Museum: Jasper, Indiana

The Dubois County Museum in Jasper, Indiana is the biggest county museum little Indiana and family have ever explored.

Just when I thought we had reached the end–a new door would open and there would be something else to see and discover!

I was not prepared for how massive an Indiana museum this was! It did not seem that big from the outside. They say to allow two hours for the tour–and you will use every minute of it!

But let me tell you what–it’s also one of the most complete, well-kept, and well-cared for museums we’ve been inside yet. In Dubois County, it’s obvious that they feel a strong sense of responsibility when it comes to town history.

These aren’t replicas, either. Folks from near and far donate the things they’ve found in their home, garage, and the back of their property. If that doesn’t say, “small Indiana town” then I just don’t know what does!

Indiana Museums

Dubois County Museum: Jasper, Indiana

We didn’t expect to see an actual cabin inside the museum! A late 1800′s and early 1900′s German-built two pen log cabin, you can actually walk inside it.

As interesting as all the different tools, wagons, and tractors were from long ago, I think the kids enjoyed the turn of the Century Main Street the most!

Just a shade under twenty different store-fronts are represented, everything from a barber shop to shoes! It’s a neat peek at the way things used to look back in the day.

It leads to a phenomenal children’s play area complete with dress-up clothing, incredible doll cabin, books, toys, and even a barge with cargo! Oh, yeah, it was fun!

Dubois County Museum: Jasper, Indiana

Dubois County Museum is family friendly and absolutely will hold the attention of each and every member in your group, Indiana history buff or not.

From the model trains to the tractors, from vintage tool demonstrations and period clothing, it’s all ready and waiting here at the Dubois County Museum.

A very long time ago little Indiana and family visited the train-lovers paradise known as the Monon Connection Museum in Monon, Indiana.

Do you remember this one? It is thought to be the largest detailed train collection in the world! With a full-sized train depot replica, loads of memorabilia, and even train cars, I certainly believe it! This Monon, Indiana attraction deserved a second look.

If you’ve been looking for an Indiana train museum–you’ve found it. A private collection available to all (for a fee), this is certainly unique. See? I told you there was more than corn and race cars in little Indiana!

All Good Things Soaps and Such: Madison Indiana

All Good Things Soaps and Such in Madison, Indiana is an entire store devoted to producing their own chemical-free soaps and more.

I don’t mean just one or two kinds–there are more than thirty varieties of natural essential oil soaps in this sweet-smelling Jefferson County shop!

Madison, Indiana: All Good Things Soaps and Such

Chalk board and brown paper give you the low-down on each of the products offered for sale. It’s an amazing shop. Kudos to the owners for the decor!

But not only does it look good–it smells good. Everything is made in-store using not only biodegradable materials in the products, but biodegradable wrapping as well. Now that is environmentally conscious.

There was so much to see and smell, you won’t believe the selection inside this Indiana town shop!

Rub a Dub Dub

All Good Things Soaps and Such: Madison Indiana

They had everything from Black Licorice Soap to a Hunter’s Soap to Orange Spice and Dark Chocolate (though I would recommend against eating that one!).

With flecks of stuff, they look amazing. Judging from the crowd, they are quite popular too!

More than just soap, however, they have other bath items like bombs and salts as well as lotions, scrubs, and even items for babies and men.

You can’t miss this one–let the bubbles in the air lead the way! Yes, All Good Things Soaps and Such has a bubble machine attached to their shop.

This downtown Madison shop won the 2011 Indiana Main Street Business of the Year. little Indiana can tell that big things are in store for this superb mom and pop shop!
