Winter or Summer, you’ll plenty to do to keep you busy in this fun Indiana town.

As we drove up the very big hill to get to the hotel and waterpark, the kids were amazed.

Encased in glass windows, there’s no hiding the colorful slides darting around inside–and out!

Kid #1 couldn’t believe his great good luck. “Mom, are we staying HERE?”

Who knew our room at Big Splash Indoor Waterpark would be so comfortable?

I was expecting more “kid-friendly” and less decorative type things. Boy was I wrong.

Extra-long decorative pillows, a comfortable mattress, and nice, neutral colors lent a relaxing feel to the room. The kids really liked playing with the giant pillows!

What’s great is that even after you check out, you are still allowed access to the indoor waterpark. How fun is that?

The lazy river was calling my name. Kid #1 liked to go through it with me.

I liked to bop his inner tube over and under as many buckets, fountains, and other “get you drenched” sort of surprises.

Now that was fun! Kid #2 loved the toddler pool and slide! He felt like such big stuff.

Kid #1 and hubby were brave enough to tackle the slides first thing. They couldn’t wait to tell me how creepy the red slide was at night–so dark you can’t see anything but can feel the temperature change as it darts outside the building!

I wasn’t brave enough to battle the stairs (you know my fear of heights, right?) until the next morning. But then? Wow did I have fun!

Go There

People travel all over the country looking for something to do when there’s great good fun to be had in their very own backyard.

Get over to Orange County and make a splash–any time of year!

When you need a comfy, cozy place to stay, you should certainly consider The Old MG Bed and Breakfast in Brownsburg, Indiana.

The Old MG Bed and Breakfast was the perfect place to hole up for the night. The kids found blocks to keep them busy and hubs and I poked through books and games, too!

But one of the best parts of any Indiana bed and breakfast stay is the breakfast! Gingerbread Muffins, French Toast, fruit–and bacon! Isn’t everything better with bacon?

These cabins are just adorable. With Christmas lights inside and out, you can have that holiday feeling any time. But then again, you are in Santa Claus, Indiana.

The cabins have room for plenty of people. With all the amenities at this Indiana campground, the large deck outside, and a great living area on the inside–it has all the makings for a great vacation!

This family owned Indiana bed and breakfast is comfortable, charming, and big on character.

little Indiana and family have stayed at a bed and breakfast or two–but The Old MG Bed and Breakfast had a feature that none of the others have had yet!

Curious? Well, it wasn’t the fact that it was built in the 1860′s, it wasn’t the sun room or the nice deck.

No, at The Old MG Bed and Breakfast, the innkeepers live in a house across the driveway. So–if there aren’t any other guests, you and yours have the place to yourself!

As some of you know, Kid #2 is famous for getting car sick. This time? He waited until we were 5 minutes away from the inn!

Yet–the innkeepers put us totally at ease.

Pete and Wendy are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Down-to-earth and friendly, these two college professors will make you feel right at home.

If you’ve never stayed in a B&B before, this would be a great place to start!

Walking inside, well, it kind of felt like walking around the home of a close family member. We just felt comfortable.

Even the kids seemed to feel it. They both found some neat castle blocks and got to work.

Hubs and I played a game of Scrabble and then read for the rest of the evening. It was wonderfully relaxing and the perfect end to a very busy day!

The Old MG Bed and Breakfast is quiet, relaxing, and I can’t think of a better place in which to unwind after a busy day spent toodling around Hendricks County!

Christmas may be over but at Lake Rudolph Campground and RV Resort, the festivity of the season doesn’t have to end!

The brand new Christmas Cabins are a sparkly and bright addition to the already merry and bright town of Santa Claus, Indiana.

When little Indiana and family pulled up to our cabin, Kid #1 wanted to wait until Kid #2 woke up so they could look at it together!

While I thought that was really sweet, I was also really impatient–I just knew they would love this unusual Indiana lodging option.

But who wouldn’t? Electric fireplace in the living room, 3 flat-screen TV’s scattered around the cozy cabin, surround sound (perfect for Christmas music), and a loft area for the boys to sleep. It’s pretty much a kid’s dream come true!

Not that grown-ups have anything to fear, either. These Christmas Cabins are so cute!

Like the custom RV that we stayed in last Summer, the cabins also have a cute little kitchen that’s stocked with the necessities: plates, silverware, pots, pans, and grilling utensils. Huh?

Step out onto the spacious covered deck that’s loaded with twinkling Christmas lights and you’ll find a gas grill, all ready to go!

Spencer County Fun

This Indiana campground is the go-to destination when you need a bit of Christmas cheer–any time of year! It’s just another great feature to fun-filled Spencer County.

The Sherman House Inn in Batesville, Indiana is one of the most unique lodging options little Indiana and family have stayed in yet!

Located right downtown, this Indiana inn has been in business since 1852.

Originally known as The Brinkman House, the Inn changed hands a few times. At some point, it was renamed to honor General Sherman’s accomplishments during the Civil War–and became The Sherman House Inn.

Once a coaching tavern, you can imagine what a busy stop this must have been!

Walking down the long, narrow hallway on the second level, you can almost hear the rustling of Victorian clothing.

Batesville, Indiana: Sherman House Inn

Our room was great! With notes in our room like the one to the right, you can see why we prefer to stay “little.” Only in a small Indiana town do they let you borrow a book and bring it back next time!

There were a lot of doorways–more like staying in a home than at an inn! The best part of all was the “secret” room on the second floor.

Down the long winding hallway lies a large room with sofas and tables. You’ll find Foosball, pool tables, a large TV, and a workout room!

We were so grateful for a place where the kids could run around! Hubs and I took turns showing off how unskilled we are when it comes to playing pool while the kids entertained themselves with a deck of cards and poker chips.

Go There

Ripley County has such phenomenal places to eat, shop, and stay. You have got to see this historic inn for yourself!

The Leavenworth Inn in Leavenworth, Indiana sits on some of the prettiest property we’ve seen yet! Six acres of trees and trails? Fun and relaxing!

From Shuffleboard to tennis courts and walking trails, there was enough located on the Leavenworth Inn property to keep us–and the kids–entertained! On a beautiful Summer day, what could be more fun than a rousing game of Shuffleboard? It’s one of our favorite things to do as a family, as funny as that sounds.

Here’s a slew of photos from our stay at the Leavenworth Inn. I think you’ll love this Indiana bed and breakfast! I know we did.

Who doesn’t love the thought of an overnight stay at the Kintner House Inn in Corydon, Indiana? The outside looks fantastic–and certainly got our attention!

This is quite the Indiana bed and breakfast! With the motto, “The Hideaway for Romantics” we were worried we wouldn’t be able to stay–we had our boys with us.

Luckily, they accept children so we shared a spacious room. We were put in the Squire Boone Room located at the top of the handsome staircase.

Even luckier? The doors to the unoccupied rooms were open so I was able to poke my head in and look. Very nice! Well, I didn’t see inside all of the rooms–there are 15 guest rooms at this large B&B!

Spacious is one word to describe it. With a fireplace, two canopy full-sized beds, and various antiques (including a giant armoire), you could also call it really cozy. Our kids loved the beds–well, they loved to play under them!

Those antique beds can really sit high up. To kids? That means there is plenty of room under them. It kept them entertained in the brief moments we were in the room and not sleeping so it worked out just fine.

I think it would be lovely to stay in the winter and have the fireplace going! With the furnishings and the canopied bed…it just screams “Relax!”

Corydon, Indiana: Kintner House Inn Squire Boone Room

The location of the Kintner House Inn couldn’t be better–it’s on a corner lot in this bustling Indiana town. So convenient for popping out and grabbing coffee at one of the couple of shops in town!

For those of you that haven’t been in old homes before, well, they just don’t make them like they used to.

You would think it would be noisy being so close to the street but…you can’t hear it. At all.

I found it all rather inspiring so hubs dug out the small table in our room and set it up next to the window (and the plug-in).

When I got up at the crack of dawn, I was able to little Indiana it up right then and there. I do love a change of location.

The Making of an Indiana Bed and Breakfast

Here’s the part of the post where I arouse your interest in Indiana history. Because Kintner House Inn? Well, it’s certainly got it!

After the Battle of Corydon on July 9, 1863, General Morgan made Kintner House Inn his headquarters! He learned of the defeat at Gettysburg from the innkeepers daughter, Sallie (very much a Northern supporter!).

Though the original Inn was lost to fire in 1871: You know Hoosiers. Ever persistent, Jacob Kintner, the owner, made plans to rebuild.

When the doors opened to the public in 1873, it was to a larger, grander inn in a new location–the same one it is today!

Kintner House Inn was thought to be the leading hotel in Harrison County until Jacob passed away in 1880. His daughter, Sallie, took over operations but after her death in 1922, it fell into various hands and purposes. This once well-known hotel became a beauty shop, a doctor’s office, a watchmaker’s office, and even, at one point, a utility office.

It fell into terrible disrepair, so when a group of men purchased the Inn in 1986, they completely refurbished the entire home–inside and out! It was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

After lots of fixing and decorating, more than sixty years since the Inn had stopped being an Inn, it opened its doors to guests once again.

No matter what room you are in at the Kintner House Inn, you are sure to find yourself surrounded by antiques. Breakfast at this bed and breakfast? Was heavenly.

With the kids along, the innkeeper kindly served bacon and eggs. Of course, there was also fruit, various breads, and even warm biscuits to nibble on, but it’s what we ate off of that was really fun!

Our coffee? Was served in teacups. Delicate, fragile floral teacups. The kind of things that do not see the light of day in our home–at least until our two boys are older.

One of the teacups was just like the one my grandmother had sitting in her china cabinet many years ago. She let me choose one as a “thank you” for helping with my ailing grandfather. The teacup? It’s the one with purple violets on it.

Charming and Comfy

When you stay in a place like this, well, you just can’t wait to return! We had a lovely stay and greatly enjoyed our time at Kintner House Inn!

Leavenworth Inn in Leavenworth, Indiana: Setting up for a Wedding

The Leavenworth Inn bed and breakfast in Leavenworth, Indiana sits atop a large hill above the most amazing scenic overlook. Who knew that Indiana had such a thing?

If it weren’t for the sign, it would be easy to miss this Indiana bed and breakfast. At least, we were so busy gawking at the large drop-off at the side of the road we might have missed it!

This is an amazing location for a bed and breakfast. Built in the 1800′s, in the early 1900′s it was advertised as Forest Grove Farm, “The Place to Spend Your Vacation.”

Guests could expect Spring chickens, fine air, and milk from Jersey cows. Once upon a time there were even grape vineyards.

Today? While it is no longer a farm, you can still expect the “fine air.” A remnant from its past, the old wine cellar still remains in the basement. Ready for a little Indiana history? What was once a town of 2,000 (until a horrible flood in 1937) is now a town of 200. It’s the perfect place to relax and unwind.

Four buildings with sixteen rooms make up Leavenworth Inn–on six acres of land! There’s all sorts of stuff to do here–or not. I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Our Room at The Leavenworth Inn

Peaceful and homey. Those are two words I would use to describe the Magnolia Suite.

Don’t think that by “homey” I mean small or outdated, either. We had an adjoining suite to share with the kiddos–two queen beds and one shared bathroom. Nicely decorated all around.

It is comfortable and relaxing. It’s also exactly what we needed after two very full days of exploring Indiana towns.

A small table and pair of chairs sit near a window, perfect for me to get some little Indiana work done! We also had an exterior door that leads right outside.

Kid #1 and I woke up early to take advantage of a few fun amenities here at The Leavenworth Inn–more on that later! Having easy access to the outdoors was great!

After rounding up the kids, we only had to walk out of our room and through the family room to get to where our family was seated for breakfast. We were just off the dining room.

While I admit we were slightly disappointed (it is the fun part of staying in a B&B, talking with strangers!) it worked out okay. The kids got to just talk (or babble) to us while we planned out the rest of our day, which included Marengo Cave!

Welcome to the first part of little Indiana’s series: Christmas in July-in June! Plenty of time left for you to plan your Indiana family vacation. Santa Claus, Indiana is the perfect place to celebrate!

First things first: If you want to be close to Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana, Lake Rudolph Campground and RV Resort is a great choice for lodging. It doesn’t get any closer to the action than this!

Don’t think that that is all that Lake Rudolph Campground and RV Resort has going for it. It’s chock full of amenities! But first things first: Check in.

If you’ve learned anything from reading little Indiana, it’s that we are great at getting lost. So, when we checked in, I was surprised to see that they hop in their little golf cart and take you directly to your site! That’s just awesome because this place? It’s huge.

We had a custom Super King Size RV rental which equals to 44 feet of fun. This was big. There were two separate full baths, a king bed for us, and another bedroom with triple bunk beds, a queen bed, plus an upper bunk bed. This RV can sleep 8 people total!

The kids were beyond thrilled with the RV. If there’s anything that’s more exciting than a bunk bed to a couple of kids, then I don’t know what it is. The bottom bunk is a mattress on the floor–perfect for Kid #2!

Hubs and I were impressed with how spacious it seemed. The full kitchen had such a cute little dining nook–I’d love to stay for more than night and try my hand at cooking a meal! It was fun just sitting there working on little Indiana.

I will say that there is free Wi-fi, but it didn’t reach us. We were over in P-30. There are areas you can go to access it but you might want to see if your site is close enough.

Holiday World: Lake Rudolph Campground and RV Resort’s Neighbor

Lake Rudolph Campground and Holiday World almost seem to overlap in places. From the Lake, you can see part of the wooden roller coaster at Holiday World! From some of the cabins, you can see part of another ride. Best of all? A shuttle will take you right to the amusement park so you don’t even have to worry about parking!

RV Rental Fun

I’ll be honest: With two small kids, I figured this Indiana town trip and RV stay would either go terribly well or just, well, terrible! I am happy to report that not only did our two boys sleep well, they absolutely loved the whole RV experience.

Our super King RV rental was large enough that we didn’t feel like we were bumping into each other. For older kids, the amenities will keep them busy (and out of your hair). More on that later. There is a list of items you will need to bring along, but all in all, we would definitely do this again!
