    • ]]>     From the instant I saw The Victorian Guest House in Nappanee, Indiana, I was giddy with excitement and couldn’t wait to get inside!  Gabled and turreted, we somehow managed to drive right by the very large Nappanee, Indiana bed and breakfast.  Oops.  My navigating skills may leave something to be desired.

    Anyway, from the outside, The Victorian Guest House was absolutely beautiful…and pink.  Very, very pink.  We had arrived after the usual check-in time, but made arrangements with the manager beforehand, so we simply typed in our entry code and were soon amazed.

    Lovely etched glass doors led into an entryway with fantastically gorgeous woodwork along an impressive staircase.   Our room was at the top of the stairs, The Coppes Suite.  Why did we The Victorian Guest House in Nappanee, Indiana; Elkhart Countychoose to stay in this room?  I think the picture easily explains it.

    Yes.  The tub was that huge.  Original to the house and in excellent condition, it is capable of holding 65 gallons of water with plenty of room for two.  I totally felt like a Princess.

    After gaping in awe at the bathroom — which was really huge and really cool — (it even had a stained glass window)  we made our way downstairs to check out what was offered in the dining room.  What a room that was!

    There was an insane amount of woodwork here as well as an incredible carved table and chairs.  My photos just do NOT do it justice!  I picked through numerous teas while hubs ponied up for a cold beverage from the mini-fridge.  Yes: hot = free, cold = pay.  The Victorian Guest House Dining Room in Nappanee, Indiana.

    Breakfast in the morning was okay.  It started with a pear comfit, an egg casserole that I’m pretty sure I have made myself at home, and a generous slice of chocolate bundt cake.  Good, but not knock-your-socks off good.  I have to admit I was expecting a little more from such a fancy schmancy place.

    The Victorian Guest House is in a terrific location.  Right in downtown Nappanee, hubs and I could easily ditch the car, walk around, even have a drink at the downtown bar together, and stumble make our way back without getting lost and confused about how to get back.  We are a gifted people, us Nunemakers.

    Bottom-line: it is a wonderful home and definitely worth checking out.  They just don’t make them like they used to!

    • ]]>     Ever wanted to wake up to the peaceful sound of horse hooves clip-clopping down Main Street?  Then you really won’t want to miss out on Middlebury, Indiana, or, more specifically, The Country Victorian Inn.  Easy to find and close to everything!

    Check out that fabulous front porch!  The whole street is just full of great homes.  Ring the bell (you won’t be able to hear it from the outside, but trust me, it works!), give the innkeepers a minute, and soon you will be warmly greeted and ushered into a cozy living room with comfortable seating and stunning woodwork.  The Country Victorian Inn

    Hospitable and quick to laugh, Lori gave us the lowdown on  Middlebury, Indiana and her charming Victorian home (it really is the cutest thing!).  We checked out our room, the Victorian Suite (very clean and comfortable), that came with lots of yummy smelling soaps and extras (free!) before taking Lori’s dinner recommendation and heading to the nearby Culinary Treasures.

    Back at the Bed and Breakfast, we couldn’t decide between borrowing a movie, a book, or a board game, but in the end we made a beeline for the nicely stocked game cabinet, grabbed a game, and headed to the dining room.

    Seated at the table, surrounded by antiques and a lovely built in cabinet original to the house, we snacked on yummy chocolate chip cookies the size of our hands while I annihilated the hubby at Yahtzee yet again (whatever he says is a lie! A lie!).  Lots of drink options: plenty of coffee (ew), hot chocolate, and tea from various brands (I chose the pumpkin spice) as well: I love having choices!  There was also a large basket of fresh fruit, though, when there are ginormous cookies, who wants fruit?

    The next morning we shared breakfast with four other couples of varying age.  Great meal (I really couldn’t ask for anything better) and good conversation: just one of the perks of the bed and breakfast!   In fact, Arnie and Lori have been kind enough  to share their recipe for Cherry and Pear Crisp with all of you. 

    The Country Victorian Inn Bed and Breakfast has so much to offer right in the heart of Amish country — you won‘t be disappointed!
