Burr Oak, Indiana: Jonathan's Fine Art and Antiques Stuff

Don’t blink or you’ll miss Burr Oak, Indiana and a really fun shop!

Burr Oak is probably one of the smallest Indiana towns we’ve been through yet. I really don’t think there’s much more than a church or two and Jonathan’s Fine Art and Antiques.

This chock full of Indiana antiques shop is on the way to a bunch of other slightly bigger small towns, like Plymouth.

The light blue trim and tons of stuff can’t help but catch your eye as you roll through. Just make sure to turn around like we did!

Right on the main street through the town, you’ll be glad you stopped for this one!

Indiana Antiques Here, There, Everywhere

Wall to wall stuff as far as the eye can see. Inside, the walls are lined with large canvas prints. A box or two of prints of various subjects sit here and there. Trees, cats, flowers, people–there’s a few to shuffle through.

Everywhere you look, there is furniture of all styles, shapes, sizes, and colors!

We found some fantastic pieces that we would have loved to take home. It was so much fun poking around here. Those super tidy shops aren’t nearly as much fun!

Everything is scattered around the large shop. Pieces are on top of pieces which are on top of larger pieces. Super small Indiana town or not, this was a great shop.

Old Farm House Antiques in Hebron, Indiana is phenomenal. Every item is in superb shape–and what’s more fun than an antique shop that takes up a whole house?

Browsing through Indiana antiques is so much fun!

And what a house it is. Great wood flooring, lovely original woodwork, plus stained glass doors and windows.

Beautiful and full of character and, really, the perfect setting in which to place loads of wonderful antiques.

You can bet we left the kids behind this time! They don’t do so well with that whole “look but don’t touch” rule yet.

Indiana Antiques

These Indiana antiques are located right next to Hebron’s high school. This is an easy one to find. Hey, we didn’t miss it or get lost and, well, we’re kind of famous for doing both.

Just ask hubs about the trip we made when we moved to where he was stationed in South Carolina. I never thought I’d see civilization again!

Inside Old Farm House Antiques

Old Farm House Antiques has a lot of interesting pieces that we hadn’t seen or heard of before–like a Prayer chair. Kind of neat!

Really, everything is in great shape in this well-kept Hebron, Indiana shop.

The couple who own this antique shop are very friendly and can tell you a story or two! They make their way around to many of the antique shows scattered across Indiana.

Indiana Antiques to Fill a House

Just checking out the house is fun! Throw in a super fantastic antique shop and what a great way to spend an hour or two in a small Indiana town!

Now that’s an afternoon well spent, don’t you agree?

I’d recommend stopping in to Old Farm House Antiques for high quality antique furniture and items. There’s nothing raggedy here!

Timeless Treasures Antiques in Wolcott, Indiana

Step into Timeless Treasures in Wolcott, Indiana and I can just about guarantee that you will be wowed!

This is an Indiana antique, gift, and garden shop that is, to put it simply: Awesome. Lucky for me — hubs and I had ditched the kids and actually got to browse around for a change!

Timeless Treasures Antiques and More

She’s got a knack for decorating. Everything is arranged just so. Timeless Treasures doesn’t just carry great Indiana antiques (although she’s got quite a selection of what she calls “shabby-tiques”), but plenty of new items mixed in there as well.

Antique or not, it looks so gorgeous and lovely you will want to buy it! Helpful hint: don’t take your hubby along so you can. Hubs aside, we both found really neat things that Kid #2 would love to get toddler mitts on.

This is one shop it would probably be best to leave the little ones at home if you want to make it out with everything in one piece!

Inside Timeless Treasures

Kidding aside, Timeless Treasures antiques and then some has a spectacular range of goodies to buy.

From the wine lover to the gardener, to those who like shiny chandeliers and jewelry, you will see something that will strike your fancy or make a great gifts (see, you really don’t need those big box stores)!

This Wolcott, Indiana shop is located in the very small (but tidy) downtown area. I think you’ll be surprised by what you’ll find in this Indiana town antique shop and more.

Absolutely you should go eat breakfast or lunch at the wonderful Wolcott Theater and Cafe and then head over to Timeless Treasures. It will be a day very well spent indeed!

Jasper County Historical Society and Museum in Rensselaer, Indiana: History Fun!

History is just fascinating. Except for my dad, it wasn’t until college that I ever met anyone else who knew so much and made it interesting (thanks Prof. Guthrie). Discover more of the interesting side of history at the Jasper County Historical Society and Museum in Rensselaer, Indiana!

This past month they just finished up with an exhibit on the Civil War (featuring a special piece from the Indiana Historical Society). Up next? Quilts!

Rensselaer, Indiana, like many small towns, has an interesting history to be sure. If you didn’t know that, try poking around the “Indiana” section in your local library sometime and see what you can find.

There’s a lot of great and wonderful Hoosiers out there, you know, like Abraham Lincoln who spent his childhood in beautiful Spencer County, Indiana.

General Robert Milroy may have had a bit of bad luck during the war but he and his wife took in a family of freed slaves and taught them to read (yes, I learned that fact at the museum).

Jasper County Historical Society and Museum in Rensselaer, Indiana

There’s more where that came from and maybe someday I’ll write that post. I do love me some Indiana history! But for now, you can get your Indiana history fix at your local Indiana history museums like the Jasper County Historical Society and Museum.

You can also check out Rensselaer Adventures because it sounds like he’s about to post his own article about the Jasper County Historical Society and Museum. Apparently I just missed him when I visited the museum. I came in, camera at the ready, gleam in my eye, not long after he left!

There are tons of great places pertaining to Indiana history in small towns. Check out Delphi, or Wabash, Ernie Pyle in Dana, and even Medaryville (which I haven’t gotten into but looked fabulous). There’s plenty more where that came from but I think you get the idea! Feel free to mention the small town museum in your neck of the woods in the comments below so everyone can know where to get their Indiana history fix!

Step Back in Time Antiques in Edinburgh, Indiana is a sight for antique-loving eyes! Who can resist the welcoming look of this quaint little shop in the lovely, historic downtown?

These Indiana antiques are in a grand old building with such a fun, vibrant exterior.What an awesome downtown!

Inside Step Back in Time Antiques, it’s warm and full of beautiful items just begging for a new home.

First thing, my eye found a gorgeous antique dining room set! But, since it was either ditch kids and hubs to make room in the car for it or just keep browsing…I regretfully chose to keep browsing.

Indiana Antiques

That pretty much sums up Step Back in Time Antiques: Lots of gorgeous things to look at and rooms to browse! The owner has a few sweetly decorated themed areas. My favorite was a neat old-looking cubby-hole shelf .

It had such a nice assortment of dishes, pitchers, and other pretty knick-knacks. This good-sized Indiana antique shop had quite a few rooms. Each time I thought I was almost done browsing, I’d find another room!

Big on Antiques

Edinburgh, Indiana: Step Back in Time Antique Shop

The building is definitely bigger than you think.

I was a fan of the kitcheny area. A hutch or two, old rolling pins (love!), and metal cookie cutters! Can you really have too many cookie cutters?

Hubs says “Yes!” but I completely disagree. Of course, he doesn’t think you can have too many soccer balls either–to which I most definitely disagree!

Stuff for Sale

What a fun shop! Great assortment of items, lovely, lovely furniture, and all sorts of little gifty items too.

This Indiana town is certainly worth your time–and Step Back in Time Antiques is a fantastic diversion.

Treasures R Us Antique Shop Delights in Whiting, Indiana

little Indiana loves a good antique shop! Treasures R Us in Whiting, Indiana was not only good–it was fun! They have a neat variety of things, from an old 1880′s commode to those cutesy little aprons that are totally back in fashion right now.

She’s got an awfully cute little kitchen area with old fashioned gadgets and complimentary kitchen decor. The cabinets are adorable! I was surprised to learn that that is her actual kitchen!

Yes, the owner also lives in part of this downtown antique shop with her happy little dog and I can see why. It’s neat! I’d move in if she’d let me!

She says that people often ask about purchasing items accidentally left air drying in the sink–but they are her actual glasses! I think that’s just funny. A look around the tidy kitchen and I can see why. They are cute glasses!

Like any antique shop, there’s usually a mix of items. Of course, that’s definitely true of Treasures R Us in Whiting, Indiana! There are cookbooks, figurines, and all sorts of unique stuff. It’s a fun little shop to browse!

I enjoyed checking out the mix of antique furniture. She had some beautiful pieces. From what I could tell, they look to be in incredible condition–which you know can be super hard to find sometimes! Really, everything looked to be in great shape.

Treasures R Us was a great little antique shop to poke around in. Add that to the other antique shops in Whiting, Indiana and you will have quite the antique shopping extravaganza!

Rossville, Indiana: Back Through Time Antique Mall

Rossville, Indiana is one of the best Indiana small towns.

Why is tiny Rossville, Indiana particularly fun Indiana town? Let’s see–a fantastic bakery, a great place to eat, and antique shops like Back Through Time Antique Mall!

Rossville, Indiana: Back Through Time Antique Mall

The owner, Michelle, is one of those super creative people who can make anything. She even has an Etsy shop so that you can enjoy handmade goodies.

Plus, she has two big black and white kitties in her shop and I think that’s just fun. You only find that in a small town!

Antique malls are a fun way to spend some time and Back Through Time Antique Mall is no exception.

She’s got a lot of neat things that you don’t always find: Fiestaware, vintage clothing, lots of costume jewelry, and plenty of one of a kind items. This is a great place for Indiana antiques!

We found the neatest belt for our 5 year old to use back on Halloween for his cowboy outfit. Seriously, it’s perfect.

Outside Back Through Time Antique Mall

The building itself is awesome. If you go into the small attached building you will find the most amazing wooden counter with the original stools!

Once upon a time, it was a hamburger joint. Now, it houses more antiques!

Outside you will still see the sign that advertises “Sanitary Lunch.” Hey, back in the day, that was a big deal! Now? It makes for a really fun photo opp.

Back Through Time Antique Mall once sold burgers here, too–but that was long ago and it is now antiques and antiques only.

Rossville, Indiana: The Peacock Perch Antiques and Books

Poking around Rossville, Indiana, we were happy to see the addition of a new shop!

The Peacock Perch in Rossville, Indiana

After our wonderful (and ginormous) lunch at Treece’s Restaurant and Lounge, what could we do but do a little shopping? Especially when right next door to Treece’s there was a brand new antique shop: The Peacock Perch Antiques and Books.

So named for the peacocks that the couple raise, there are a few nods to peacocks here and there.

Scattered feathers, a couple of peacock-related art pieces, and the bold, vibrant blue paint on the wall are a great compliment to the tin ceilings.

Indiana Antiques

The Peacock Perch Antiques and Books has some very interesting items: Three very vintage baby carriages in great shape, wonderful antique picture frames, fishing lures, buttons, and all sorts of knickknacks.

Rossville, Indiana: The Peacock Perch Antiques and Books

My personal favorite? The old books! We saw children’s books like Clifford the Big Red Dog series and assorted Little Golden Books.

The shop isn’t the biggest you will ever see but it’s plenty big enough! Hubs and I really enjoyed looking around.

Go There

Once upon a time this tidy shop was a laundromat! The new owners took a lot of time trying to get the building into shape and ready to go. They have done a fabulous job–this Rossville antique shop is very welcoming.

Rossville, Indiana is just one of the best small Indiana towns. Not only are the people friendly but the town also has a great restaurant and now two unique antique shops.

Empty Nest Antiques and Collectibles in Medaryville, Indiana

Remember when I mentioned the wonderful surprise I found on the way to Medaryville, Indiana?

Well, on our way in to Medaryville, Indiana, several tables covered with stuff caught my eye but I didn’t beg and plead–at first. It wasn’t until I noticed the colorful flags and a sign proclaiming: Empty Nest Antiques and Collectibles.

Yes, little Indiana readers, this antique shop in a tiny Indiana town takes up a whole house! Inside and out!

Hubs very kindly turned around with a sigh…until he pulled in and saw some neat things, too. Kid #1 is always up for a “yard sale” so when he saw toys with wheels, well, he was ready and raring to go.

Outside I found a few things — including my now “new” desk chair (it’s very writer-ish and makes me feel all sorts of inspired) I couldn’t wait to take a look around on the inside!

Inside Empty Nest Antiques and Collectibles

The inside was even better (and the outside was pretty darn fun!).

Empty Nest Antiques and Collectibles is jam-packed with things. Beautiful, lovely things.

So many things you will consider leaving behind your children and hubby so you have enough space to shove more into the car (the moment or two of peace and quiet wouldn’t hurt either).

Medaryville, Indiana Antique Shop: Empty Nest Antiques and Collectibles

There was a lot of fantastic period furniture and dishware. Super nice selection of antiques and all for really good prices (that’s another small town perk just in case you didn’t know).

She got her start when she lost her job and thought about what she really wanted to be doing–and Empty Nest Antiques and Collectibles was born!

I am a really big fan of the furniture.

Return trip? I hope so! This was such a fun house in which to browse. Next time? I’m going alone!
