    • ]]>     The Stone House in Delphi, Indiana's Buffalo Chicken SandwichDelphi, Indiana – and everyone is hungry, but the kid is the loudest about it, as usual.  The kid spent the last 15 minutes of the Opera House tour (I know, I know you are dying to read about it, it’s in the works) complaining about food, or, rather, the lack thereof.  SO – we took the advice of, um, every single person that we talked to that morning – and walked down the block to The Stone House.

    This is an awesome building.  I wish I had a better shot of the doors – they were seriously super tall and rather unusual.  Once upon a time, the building was even home to a brothel!  I find past histories of places so interesting.  I wish I had more information than that – but, unfortunately, I do not.  Do you?

    Anyway, back to The Stone House of the present!  It has a really neat, long wood bar and a mirror that takes up a large chunk of the wall behind it.  The Stone House is a really neat building.

    As you can see from the photos – hubs had a burger and onion rings and I had the Buffalo Chicken sandwich and chips (I wanted a burger but I hate ordering the same thing as the hubs so I compromised…this time).  Yum! We were both happy with ours – the kid enjoyed himself, too.

    Delphi, Indiana The Stone House -- A Burger and FriesBut we were even more happy with the goodies we bought for the road.  The kid got a sugar cookie and even let me try a bite – it was excellent!  Hubs had a chocolate chip cookie which was okay and I got a Rocky Road Brownie: nuts and marshmallow over a layer of thick yummy brownie.  Yeah, it was good – hubs and the kid both wanted to share.  As if!  The server said to eat it with a glass of milk nearby – she wasn’t kidding!  It was fantastic and I am anxious to recreate that one at home!

    Bottomline: Go there!  Great food, great atmosphere, and even better baked goods in super friendly Delphi, Indiana make this a must-go!

    • ]]>     Struggling though the downtown Wolcott area was…there still were quite a few gems scattered around.  Check out the neat balcony on that interesting Victorian!  Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have the door open in the Summer with a good book in hand!  Sounds like heaven to me – especially after all the snow lately!  Ugh.

    • ]]>     From the instant I saw The Victorian Guest House in Nappanee, Indiana, I was giddy with excitement and couldn’t wait to get inside!  Gabled and turreted, we somehow managed to drive right by the very large Nappanee, Indiana bed and breakfast.  Oops.  My navigating skills may leave something to be desired.

    Anyway, from the outside, The Victorian Guest House was absolutely beautiful…and pink.  Very, very pink.  We had arrived after the usual check-in time, but made arrangements with the manager beforehand, so we simply typed in our entry code and were soon amazed.

    Lovely etched glass doors led into an entryway with fantastically gorgeous woodwork along an impressive staircase.   Our room was at the top of the stairs, The Coppes Suite.  Why did we The Victorian Guest House in Nappanee, Indiana; Elkhart Countychoose to stay in this room?  I think the picture easily explains it.

    Yes.  The tub was that huge.  Original to the house and in excellent condition, it is capable of holding 65 gallons of water with plenty of room for two.  I totally felt like a Princess.

    After gaping in awe at the bathroom — which was really huge and really cool — (it even had a stained glass window)  we made our way downstairs to check out what was offered in the dining room.  What a room that was!

    There was an insane amount of woodwork here as well as an incredible carved table and chairs.  My photos just do NOT do it justice!  I picked through numerous teas while hubs ponied up for a cold beverage from the mini-fridge.  Yes: hot = free, cold = pay.  The Victorian Guest House Dining Room in Nappanee, Indiana.

    Breakfast in the morning was okay.  It started with a pear comfit, an egg casserole that I’m pretty sure I have made myself at home, and a generous slice of chocolate bundt cake.  Good, but not knock-your-socks off good.  I have to admit I was expecting a little more from such a fancy schmancy place.

    The Victorian Guest House is in a terrific location.  Right in downtown Nappanee, hubs and I could easily ditch the car, walk around, even have a drink at the downtown bar together, and stumble make our way back without getting lost and confused about how to get back.  We are a gifted people, us Nunemakers.

    Bottom-line: it is a wonderful home and definitely worth checking out.  They just don’t make them like they used to!
