Nappanee, Indiana is such a great Indiana town you will want to make sure you are close to the adorable downtown area. The Homespun Country Inn Bed and Breakfast is a great lodging option!

The Homespun Country Inn Bed and Breakfast couldn’t be in a better location. It’s so close to town, which is so walkable, you don’t need a car at all! With gas prices these days, that’s definitely a nice little bonus.

My favorite part of any Indiana bed and breakfast is figuring out the best place to relax. Here? The front porch is it! Notice the fireplace in the image below–that would be the one I talked about in an earlier post. Cute!

Amish Acres Threshers Dinner in Nappanee, Indiana is like taking a break from the harvest season while sitting outside under a big oak tree, passing around platters piled high–but without the harvest or sitting outside! In other words? Awesome!

After a great Amish-style dinner, we came to the best part of the whole evening. For those that are new to little Indiana, that would be the part where we get to pick out our dessert! Oh, the choices.

Our server brought around a giant tray of pies. It was a plethora of pies! I chose the Coconut Cream (and choose well) while hubs went for Pecan Pie. Here’s a hint–don’t pass on the pie! If you are stuffed (like we were) ask for a “to go” container before heading out of this great Nappanee, Indiana attraction!

Served family-style, this is a table-buckling kind of dinner that invites you to push up your sleeves and dig on in!

The last time I had been to Amish Acres Threshers Dinner I was probably in sixth grade–and I left my Summer League Bowling Jacket there. Even then I was awesome.

Bright blue and embroidered with my name, well, you didn’t happen to see it did you?

Some things, thankfully, do not change. In a time when there are cut-backs and cheap-outs, Amish Acres Threshers Dinner was as good as ever.

The image of me at Amish Acres above would be before we had the Threshers Dinner. You know, before I had to undo the top button of my pants!

Indiana Amish Recipes

Kidding aside, the Amish are known for plain and simple food–and Amish Acres has stuck to that creed.

Everything is wholesome and really good.

Meant to mimic a traditional threshers dinner, when Amish families would gather together at a host farm to share a large meal during the harvest, this meal is served family style among your group. You can feel free to ask for more of anything. If you have the room!

We had heard that the Fried Chicken was very good. In fact, it seemed to be a common favorite among Elkhart County folks.

Hubs and I giggled a little. I mean, we had a table full of food for just the two of us! I bet you could hear the table groaning from there.

There were Amish Ham and Beans, fresh bread, fried chicken, beef and noodles, green beans, and then some.

My favorites were the Amish Ham and Beans, the bread, Beef, and the dessert–but that’s for another post! Hubs liked the Beef and Noodles, Amish Ham and Beans, and the Fried Chicken the best.

Go There

The Threshers Dinner is set in a really neat building. Large windows and high ceilings with hand-hewn timbers from an 1870 barn were rebuilt here in 1977. Loads of light and great atmosphere combine!

Mom and Me Floral Boutique is a cross between a florist and an Indiana antique shop! I really liked browsing the antique furniture. I saw a set that my grandmother once possessed!

While you’re here, you might as well surprise someone with a bunch of fresh-cut flowers. Just don’t forget to tell ‘em that little Indiana sent you.

Inside this lovely Victorian home, you’ll find yourself surrounded by country decor and friendly faces.

Nappanee, Indiana is such a fun, walkable Indiana town. The Homespun Country Inn B&B puts you right near the heart of downtown!

I loved the easy access afforded by this cute Indiana bed and breakfast. It let us get from Point A to Point B without having to hop in and out of the car.

We were able to zip around the quaint downtown shops and enjoy ourselves without having to worry about parking the car and navigating one-way streets or Amish buggies!

Our room was cozy and cute. Decorated in vintage style, it was frilly and kind of fun.

There was actually a photo in our room of the original occupant: Wilma, who was married in 1921 in front of the fireplace downstairs. Is that a neat touch or what?

But my favorite spot in the house wasn’t actually in–it was the fantastic front porch! I love a good front porch. Sitting on a front porch swing, watching the neighborhood and people go by, well, it’s something I really enjoy.

I enjoyed just hanging out on the front porch with the hubby, watching the world go by. Before we got back to work, visiting the mom and pop shops, of course!

As always, my favorite part of a bed and breakfast stay is the breakfast!

I stayed up too late going through photos taken of Nappanee the day before, making plans as to what I wanted to revisit as well as new places to go before we had to leave.

So waking up to coffee, fruit salad, and Sausage-Stuffed French Toast really put me on the right track!

If you want the ability to explore downtown Nappanee, Indiana, to take in the sights without having to drive everywhere–you won’t go wrong choosing The Homespun Country Inn Bed and Breakfast!

The Wakarusa Dime Store has been a downtown staple since 1907–and is known beyond the borders of our great state for one unusual item: Jumbo Jelly Beans.

little Indiana and hubs explored great shops like Mom & Me Florist in Wakarusa, Indiana–but don’t let the name mislead you.

There’s more than flowers in this mom and pop shop!

Mom and Me Florist

Stepping inside we were both surprised at the antiques! More than a florist, there are gift items and really sharp Indiana antiques galore. Who knew?

Here, there, and everywhere, you’ll pass by many interesting pieces as you make your way to the back counter.

This is a very large and spacious shop–you’ll find plenty to appreciate!

It’s a first for little Indiana. You don’t see too many antique and floral shops in Indiana towns but it really works.

Unlike a junk shop where things are dusty and need a bit of TLC, everything in Mom and Me Floral Boutique that I could see was in great shape.

More than just antique books and old china teacups, there were several furniture items. I was surprised to see a dining room set that looked just like the one my grandma once had!

Wakarusa, Indiana is such a fun little town. The next time you roll through Elkhart County, make it a point to step inside Mom and Me Floral Boutique!

Nappanee, Indiana is thrilled about the new kid in town, Veni’s Sweet Shop!

Yes, Veni’s Sweet Shop is as good as it sounds.

Veni’s Chocolate Shop in Nappanee, Indiana

Nice and bright, this shop is so welcoming. Rows and rows of chocolates in all shapes, sizes, and flavors beg to be bought and eaten behind the shining glass.

I would be lying if I said I came out of Veni’s Sweet Shop empty-handed!

But it’s research, right? I mean, I don’t really even have a choice in the matter. I owe it to all of you to tell it like it is.

Indiana Sweet Shop

After an agonizingly difficult decision, I ended up with Orange Creme, Vanilla Creme, and Mint Creme. My favorite flavors right here in little Indiana! Awesome.

Smooth and delicious–there’s no additives, wax, or preservatives in these chocolatey bites of Heaven. You can definitely taste the difference. Fresh and fantastic.

At this Indiana candy store, the Orange Creme was my favorite!

Personally, I would love to do more research on Veni’s Sweet Shop. Seriously. Name the day!

More Than a Chocolate Shop

Veni's Sweet Shop: Nappanee, Indiana

This Elkhart County shop isn’t only for those who need a Chocolate fix (though it certainly does the trick!).

There’s a selection of nuts, candy, and even drinks–like an ice cream float or Hot Chocolate.

But more than that? I see Veni’s Sweet Shop as one more reason to bypass the big box shops and to support local business. Oh, how sweet it is!

Go There

A sweet shop is just what Nappanee needed! I can’t think of a better fit for this bustling Indiana town.

This is an Indiana antique store with a fantastic history–and many very unusual pieces!

Yoder Brothers Mercantile is awesome inside and out. Just make sure to ask the owner about the various other businesses that once had a home here. I think you’ll find it very interesting.

Yoder Brothers Mercantile in Wakarusa, Indiana

Wakarusa, Indiana has one of the most interesting antique shops I’ve ever been in–Yoder Brothers Mercantile!

Wall to wall and floor to ceiling, little Indiana and hubby were constantly oohing and aahing at all the fantastic Indiana antiques.

The building itself is awesome. Right away the owner pointed down the length of his shop at two indentations way down the line in the original hardwood flooring.

Those are from years ago when a cash register and sales clerk hung out thataway–in the days when this was a department store!

Pretty neat, eh? It just gets better.

He told us about the hand-operated freight elevator in the back of the shop, the last one left in this tiny Indiana town. While it’s not something you would want to use, we got to take a peek inside. I bet if you ask nicely, he’d let you look, too.

Around The Outside

Yoder Brothers Mercantile in Wakarusa, Indiana

You’ll be totally shocked to see ANOTHER building in the back. Well, you would have been if I hadn’t of told you!

Since we were there on the most beautiful Summer day ever–the door was open revealing a green-space in the back. There was even a little pond.

Get a load of the outside of the building there. It is awesome. Then head back inside because there’s a whole second side to this giant Indiana antique shop!

What Lurks Below

I still have to tell you what was in the basement. The long, dark basement. You’ll want to come back for that–for sure! It’s a rather creepy look at bit of Indiana history.
