Earl’s Dining and Catering in Brook, Indiana is yummy beyond words!

As you might remember, little Indiana and hubby enjoyed a nice, quiet, child-free evening (our first date night in years). Hubs ordered Almost Norman’s 1 lb. Pork Chop while I got the Queen cut of Prime Rib. We also had appetizers and dessert. We are very thorough in our research.

What I left out in my previous post about Earl’s Dining and Catering were the walls. If you look closely in one of the images below, you can actually see dollar bills sticking out of the awesome exposed brick walls in this neat Brook, Indiana restaurant. Huh?

Apparently, a customer at one time decided to put a dollar in a hole in the wall and other patrons followed suit.

little Indiana had to join in, of course. You can look for our dollar — hubs wrote “little Indiana” on it in his funky writing in black permanent marker.

Anyway, I decided it was probably about time to let you see the rest of our order and more of Earl’s Dining and Catering. Just make sure you aren’t hungry–these are almost guaranteed to make you rush right out and take a little road trip over to the small Indiana town of Brook!

Rensselaer, Indiana residents are so lucky–they’ve got the Willow Switch! It’s a fantastic coffee and gift shop!

But, coffee fiend or not, there’s still plenty to love!

Easy to find in downtown Rensselaer, this Jasper County shop has all sorts of coffee and tea bagged up and ready to go–just in case a single cup isn’t enough!

I admit that I’ve only recently discovered a love for coffee–not even a year ago kind of recent. Even then, I drink it black.

But, let me tell ya: the Blueberry Creme and the Chocolate Raspberry Truffle are superb! Boy does our home ever smell good while that’s brewing!

For Non-Coffee Lovers, Too

Every time I happen by, I tend to go for some variety of Chai Tea (hot or ice, spiced or vanilla) or a Strawberry and Banana Smoothie. Yum!

I’ve heard the Mixed Berry Smoothie is awesome but some habits are hard to break.

Hubs always orders some variation of coffee so between the two of us, I’ve sampled quite a bit! Yes: it’s all good–even with the pound and a half of sugar and creamer hubs dumps into his.

Gifts and Decor

The Willow Switch isn’t just a coffee shop. It’s also a well-stocked and very well-kept gift shop!

There’s really neat furniture of all kinds, both antiques and reproductions, picture frames–some with gorgeous local photography, quilts, linens, light fixtures…you get the idea.

I think it’s the perfect mix of old and new. Something always catches my eye!

Drink Coffee (or Tea) and Be Merry

So, next time you meander around little Indiana and wander through the nice Indiana town of Rensselaer, make sure to grab a drink and a cookie from The Willow Switch. Maybe a little present for yourself, too. Cozy and relaxing, it may just be the highlight of your day!

Spring is in the Air in little Indiana

Yes, folks – it’s Spring! I only know this because instead of snow…there’s been rain! Actual rain!

It might be a little hard to see it but right in the lower middle of my photo you can see a rainbow. It was a nice one – an arch across the sky! Too bad it faded by the time I saw it and grabbed the camera. Oh, well – there’s no complaining when there is sunshine and flowers blooming and walk around outside without freezing kind of weather!

Now: to decide what small towns to visit next! Have an opinion? Feel free to contact me or leave a comment below!

Indiana Winter…oh, yeah: it’s COLD!

Some parts of the world possess constant sunshine and warmth year round. Here in Indiana? Not so much. I’m not sure I even remember what the sun looks like at this point!

This late in the game, I am about as tired of snow as I can be but I also know that as soon as the next snowfall hits (we’re talking hours not days) I know I will grudgingly bundle up and head right back out there, looking for that ever elusive perfect shot. Oh, well. As long as there is hot black coffee waiting for me when I get back in…I can take it. After all: I am a Hoosier!

Winter Wonderland: Ice Storms

Here’s a friendly little reminder of the crazy winter we Hoosiers survived – and are getting close to experiencing again! Remember the weird spurts of heavy snow, thick ice, pouring rain, and thunderstorms?

Ice really slows everyone down, of course, and in a small town, things really pretty much just stop. But nothing quite beats the photo opportunity of walking a winter wonderland through glittering, glimmering ice.

Think that Lost Camera or Memory Card is Gone Forever? Think Again!

Every so often you stumble onto something that reminds you that it isn’t always a dog eat dog world out there, that *gasp* people can do something nice without expecting anything in return. That’s just how I felt, anyway, when I discovered I Found Your Camera Website.

Leaving your camera, memory card, or roll of film behind no longer has to mean a permanent separation. Do-gooders upload photos to the site in the hopes that somebody, somewhere will recognize the faces and places and that these irreplaceable memories can get back into the hands of the rightful owners, where they belong.

Just reading where a camera was found – and where it originally started out – is amazing. Plus, it gives me hope that I may just come across my long lost rolls of film!
