little Indiana is in love with Harvest Tyme Pumpkin Patch in Lowell, Indiana. It’s another Indiana pumpkin patch that will make you wonder why you ever picked up a pumpkin from the big box shops.

Pedal tractors, baby chicks, lots of playground fun, and the hayride to the pumpkin patch are all free! Free, I tell ya! The only two attractions that will cost you are still inexpensive–and one of the two, the milking contest, will net you a prize (and the prize is Kid #2′s new favorite thing).

Skiles Orchard and Farm Market is such a neat place to roam. In the country and surrounded by nothing? Yeah, this is peaceful!

While I seem to lack a green thumb (just ask my houseplants), Skiles Orchard is just a flourishing sea of green–or orange, depending on the season. Apples, pumpkins, gourds–it’s all here in this large Indiana orchard.

Just know that you won’t need to bring a bag for this one! It’s not a You-Pick Indiana orchard, so all the heavy lifting has been done for you, which is good–you can use your energy on other Rossville, Indiana treasures.

Walking through a family-owned Indiana pumpkin patch like Norm’s just makes me feel good.

Indiana Pumpkin Patch: Norm’s in Lowell, Indiana

I mentioned in a previous post that Norm’s Pumpkin Patch has goats and donkeys, but I didn’t get a chance to tell you much more than that.

We just happened to walk by a guy hauling out a pumpkin past its prime. He asked if we wanted to break it and feed it to the animals. Did we ever! Now that is something that little Indiana had never done in an Indiana town before.

Kid #2 started chattering and shouting, “Horse! Horse!” as soon as he saw the donkey (he’s on a big horse kick right now). Kid #1 was excited to throw in chunks of pumpkin. The goats were happy too–and the baby goat was able to squeeze through the fence on our side before he’d get scared and run back to his mom. Cute!

This Indiana pumpkin patch is so much fun. From the 6 acre corn maze (with map!), to the corn box, Washoes, rubber ducky race, and then some…there’s a lot to see and do.

The toddler was particular thrilled about the rubber duck race. He didn’t so much care about the ducks but that he got to work the pump. Fun!

little Indiana can’t recommend Guse Christmas Tree Farm in Wanatah, Indiana enough. A great time was had by all.

This isn’t the first time little Indiana has suggested that you bypass the big box in exchange for a small town pumpkin. Make an afternoon of it in this picturesque Lowell, Indiana pumpkin patch!

For a pumpkin patch that’s easy on the wallet but has loads to do? Well, you just can’t beat Harvest Tyme.

When you pull in, you won’t be able to resist the view. Fields and pumpkins! It’s simply beautiful–and easy to find (which you know is always a perk for those of us who get lost so easy).

When the kids saw all the stuff to do, well, they didn’t know what to do first!

Did they check out the playground equipment? Or did they play in the crooked house or the corn box? They both made a beeline for the shiny red Farmall pedal tractors.

Not just one or two, there were actually three of these beauties–as well as a few other ride-ons for younger kids who can’t maneuver so well. With a nice paved lane, the kids had so much fun!

After that, they took off in separate directions. One kid ran to the gas station to “fill up” his pedal tractor. Kid #2 decided the baby chicks in Chickville needed a new BFF.

There is just so much to do at this small Indiana town pumpkin patch! We grabbed the kids from the slides and took a hayride together.

Charlie, the tractor, pulled us along in very comfortable hay wagons. Grandparents will appreciate this cushy ride–I know I did!

You’ll go through these scenic fields with slightly rolling hills. It’s not so long that little ones get fidgety. It’s just long enough. Oh, and free.

The Great Pumpkin (Patch)

Harvest Tyme is a super fantastic place to begin a new family tradition: picking out a pumpkin. Check it out on the weekend and enjoy the multiple firepits and freshly made kettle corn.

While it is not a You-Pick or a pumpkin patch, Skiles Orchard and Farm Market has twenty varieties of apples alone to choose from. These apples come from 2,000 trees! Is that amazing or what?

They also carry all that seasonal goodness that you crave: Pumpkins, Gourds, Mums, and Asters.

You can get the farm-fresh fruits and veggies you need without resorting to those horrid big box shops! That’s a win/win for sure.

There are a few greenhouses that you can wander through at Skiles Orchard and Farm Market. The plants are just beautiful.

Outside of the greenhouses, you’ll find rows of tables with even more plants! Vegetable plants, herbs, annuals, and perennials, they really seem to have it all!

Skiles Orchard even has an indoor gifty area with local goods for sale like gourd birdhouses and unique handcrafted wood items.

Just be forewarned–this is a cash-only orchard! But don’t worry if you rush out without cash, just head to nearby Rossville. You can shop and eat while you’re there!

Indiana Pumpkin Patch: Guse Christmas Trees Six Acre Corn Maze

Trying to find an Indiana Pumpkin Patch with loads of activities? Guse Christmas Trees and Pumpkin Patch is it!

You’ll have to head to Wanatah, Indiana for this pumpkin patch loaded with extras.

First–don’t get confused. When you see the yellow and black signs proclaiming a corn maze do not fly by. Instead, look for the turnoff down a long road with a big pumpkin sign!

Park, then head on in to the big barn. You’ll want to plop down a couple of bucks and do the corn maze!

There’s also a Water Balloon Slingshot (also pay) but don’t worry–there’s plenty that doesn’t cost a thing! First? We tackled the maze.

Indiana Pumpkin Patch: Corn Box!

Now THIS is fun! You’ll be handed a map before you set off. This is a big and sprawling maze with narrow pathways.

As you can imagine, this takes a bit of planning! The corn is planted in two directions so that you can’t cheat.

After it’s grown, they paint the stalks that need to come done, spray for weeds, and get to work. There are two sides–a long one hour long maze or the shorter 20ish minute maze.

We fit in the shorter maze which was incredible. Hey, there was even a bridge in the middle of it! Is that neat or what?

Wanatah, Indiana Fun

We weren’t ready to call it quits just yet! After the maze we headed back to the main area.

With a small playground, a giant “corn box,” rubber duck race, hay stacks to climb, and Washoes, well, let’s just say there’s plenty to do!

The four of us ran back and forth between attractions. It was so fun! That corn box is something else! The owner stated that he’s seen more than a few grandmas hop in the giant shelled corn box with their little ones. Is that cute or what?

We always talk about our “favorite thing” in the car on the way home. This time? We were all divided and couldn’t narrow it down!

You can easily make a day of it at Guse Christmas Trees and Pumpkin Patch when you pick out your Halloween pumpkin! There’s so much to do–no wonder it’s a popular spot for field trips!

They serve food and snacks and, again, the prices are reasonable. Just what you would expect from a small Indiana town pumpkin patch.

Using my list of Indiana Pumpkin Patches, hubs and I headed out with kids in tow to explore!

little Indiana headed back to Lowell, Indiana to check out Norm’s Pumpkin Patch Farm.

Lowell, Indiana: Norm’s Pumpkin Patch Farm

Following the signs, we found Norm’s Pumpkin Patch easily enough. Pulling in, you’ll drive past the pumpkins and make your way to the back of the farm to park.

Before you head over to the pumpkins, you should know that the corn maze is located behind the parking lot. Ask for directions–Kid #1 thought this was the coolest thing ever!

It’s a big one! Norm’s pumpkin patch boasts a four acre corn maze. Four acres!

What’s a Pumpkin Patch Without The Pumpkins?

Norm’s Pumpkin Patch Farm has such a neat story. More than twenty years ago, Norm grew a few pumpkins and decided to share with the neighbors.

A neighbor loaned him a small tractor so that one neighborhood family at a time, he could give them a hay ride and a chance to pick out their own pumpkin!

As things often do, it took off! Norm expanded his operation to reach out to the community at large with reasonably priced fresh pumpkins.

Today, Norm supplies the neighborhood and people from miles around with a variety of pumpkins and a few fun attractions.

Haunted Hay Ride

Indiana Pumpkin Patch: little Indiana at Norm's in Lowell

During the week, this pumpkin patch in Indiana is very low-key.

Kids can play at the play area, check out the adorable goats and donkeys, and maybe even go for a barrel ride.

A lawnmower with carts in tow, this ride is a fast zigzag back over to a green space near the parking area. Kid #1 didn’t stop grinning! Some parents, however, may want to sit this bumpy ride out–although hubs was a fan.

But the weekend is when Norm’s really comes alive. With a haunted hay ride, regular hay ride, food, and a visiting magician, picking out a pumpkin becomes an event instead of something you just do.

Goats, Pumpkins, Hay Ride–Oh My!

Bypass those boring pumpkins at the big box shops–who knows how long they sat there? Instead, find the small Indiana town pumpkin patch, like Norm’s, closest to you. Make it a fun event that you’ll look forward to year after year!

Okay, so maybe the title should actually say, “Why you should go to a small town pumpkin patch” but either way, you probably get my point.

For starters–Indiana pumpkin patches have one very big thing going for them, they’re fresh! Your pumpkins will look good and last longer. For another? Supporting local businesses is always a great idea!

Look, other than longevity and economics, your small town pumpkin patches frequently hold more varieties and tons more choices than anything the big box will possess.
