It was one of those days when we decided to drive in a random direction and see what we could find. Today, we happened to find Dick and Judy’s Restaurant. Located right in downtown Jamestown, Indiana, you really can’t miss this one. It’s right on the main drag and easy to spot. It’s nothing fancy–just good home cooking.
You can tell it’s a small Indiana town. Everyone in the place knew everyone else. They chatted back and forth across tables to each other. If you haven’t ever experienced that, well, it’s one of the reasons why we live in a small town: the friendliness! Even though we didn’t know anyone there and could not participate in the back and forth cross-table talk, we still felt like we belonged. Do you know what I mean?
There’s something terribly reassuring about sitting in a place where people still communicate. You won’t see nonstop cellphones and grunted responses. Instead, people find ways to connect in a small town, like by frequenting their favorite places, and seeking each other out. I love that.
Really, there’s nothing like knowing some of the people around you. It almost guarantees that dining out with the kids will go 100% more smoothly. The kids always like when someone makes a big deal of them and how they have grown.

Dick and Judy’s Restaurant has a very nice menu. Lots of Hoosier favorites have made their way onto this one! I had the best Pork Tenderloin Sandwich that I’ve had so far. Thick, flavorful, and a phenomenal breading. That was oh-so tasty.
I had a side of chips to go with it but after eating the ginormous pork tenderloin sandwich I only nibbled. Edited to add: Thanks to this sandwich, I was made a convert. I had never really had all that many pork tenderloin sandwiches in the past. After our trip to Dick and Judy’s Restaurant, I strove to order them wherever I could, and still do so today. My husband, Jeremy, had the daily special which happened to be beef and noodles. He thought it was pretty good but he was very much jealous of my sandwich. While it probably was big enough to share, that just wasn’t going to happen. I let him have a big bite or two. I’m nice like that.
