The Dubois County Museum in Jasper, Indiana was more than an escape from the rain–it was probably some of the best two hours I’ve ever spent!
Look, there’s a lot of exciting and interesting Indiana history, especially in small towns! You know the feuds and the gossip and a county museum lets you in on all the secrets. One story that sticks with me? The fire that destroyed a town–and one unlucky merchant who had let his insurance lapse just a few days before it and hadn’t gotten around to renewing it. The value of each particular store and its estimated loss is staggering.
And that is just one of the many stories and facts from around Jasper, Indiana and Dubois County! But take heart, there’s plenty of great uplifting stories tucked away in there, too!
