House of Jerky in Nashville, Indiana certainly fits in well with the many unique and quirky shops also located downtown. I’ve been to many Indiana towns at this point but I have to say that a shop dedicated to jerky is a first.

I had no idea that jerky came in so many varieties. You’ve got your turkey and beef and venison jerky, of course. Those are your jerky staples, right? When I was a kid, I remember our cousins up in Wisconsin and Minnesota bringing down some of their homemade venison jerky. It brought back happy memories of family get-togethers. I remembered how fabulous venison jerky was.
But then…there’s a few bags here of things you haven’t seen before. When it comes to food, I can be very brave so I decided to try one of the more unusual kinds: kangaroo jerky. Our boys thought that was very interesting. The oldest was all ready to try it as well. He is a fan of having a good story to tell. He thought that would probably do it.
It tasted like chicken. I’m just kidding. It didn’t taste like chicken, at least, not any chicken I’ve ever had. Kidding aside, I’m not sure what I would compare it to, but it definitely wasn’t bad. Kangaroo is actually lean, healthy, and did not have any sort of gamey taste. It’s high in protein, too.

Why should you stop in? The owner is hilarious and ready to hand out the samples. Since there are a lot of choices here (I think you’ll be surprised) it helps to know what you are getting in to before you commit. This way, you can try some of the more unusual flavors and see what you think.
You’ll find bags of vacuum packed jerky that range from Black Pepper Kangaroo to Black Pepper Buffalo and even Black Pepper Wild Boar. Wowza. They aren’t all black pepper, though. You’ll find sweet and spicy, natural, Teriyaki, soy, and hot varieties too. No matter which one you choose, you will enjoy a fabulous blend of seasonings and spices.
Who knew that there were so many jerky flavors that it could justify its own stand-alone retail shop? What’s more…who knew they’d be so good?
Unusual Shopping Destination
Just because you are in Nashville doesn’t mean you can’t get a little wild. At least, it doesn’t mean your food options have to be predictable, right? Try something new at House of Jerky in Nashville, Indiana. These would certainly make a fun, unexpected gift for friends or family.
This Indiana town is so unique in so many ways. If you haven’t yet made the trip to Brown County, you will love what you find.
