Indiana Blogs: 53Blonde

Indiana Blogs: 53Blonde

53Blonde is an Indiana blog that is such a fun read of a soon to be married, book loving, reality tv lovin’ Hoosier blogger!

Between planning a wedding and sharing her everyday life, Melissa offers it up with a dash of humor.

Please meet Melissa. She’s fun, she’s thoughtful, and I think you’ll enjoy her updates!

Indiana Blogs: 53Blonde

Why did you start 53Blonde?
I started 53blonde as a place for me to document my life. The idea was to decide on a time period (like from my birthday until my next birthday) and each year I would print the blog – kind of like a personal yearbook.

As I started to get more involved with the blog and making blog friends, I became more dedicated to sharing not only my personal thoughts but also things that inspire me and fun stuff like outfits and playlists I love. I’ve been blogging for just over two years now – before 53blonde, I had a blog called Flower Child in the Country.

When I thought I was moving to Boston, I changed the name to Flower Child in the City. Finally, I decided that enough was enough and made the permanent switch to 53blonde.

What about that name? Why 53Blonde?
I’m 5’3″ and blonde. Seriously! My family is all super tall (even my mom comes close to 6ft) and I’m just looking up at them from 5’3″.

It’s a running joke in the family so when I was trying to think of a blog name, I thought it was the perfect name to keep on a long term basis. People always try to find reasoning behind the 53 but I actually hate odd numbers, so there’s no special meaning – just my height!

What are three of your most favorite posts?

  • My best friend passed away in high school, so she is a constant source of love and light in my life. In this post, I share a REALLY funny video of her where she and another friend were filming for a talent show video, and she scares herself and starts laughing. There’s no sound, but it makes me smile every time I watch it!
  • I LOVE music and being from Arcadia definitely has me favoring country music the majority of the time. This post shares my playlist for June of this summer – full of country and great memories!
  • Okay, this one may be cheating a little since my fiancé Philip actually wrote the post, but it is one of my absolute favorites on the blog! It’s about my love of Fast Five (yes, the movie) and my delusional aspirations to be a precision driver.

What keeps you ready and raring to post? Why do you blog?
The blogging community is definitely what keeps me going. I love getting to know other bloggers and forming relationships with them.

In fact, quite a few of my blog friends I would consider to be “real life” friends as well – there are times I turn to them before I turn to the friends I see in person just because I know that they’re going to give me an unbiased, truthful opinion about whatever topic I bring up.

I also love the fact that I can sort of let things go through the blog. Once I put them out there, they’re out there for everyone to see – that often relieves a lot of the stress that can build up because of situations that are occurring in my life.

You write that you like to read–what are you favorite books of all-time?
Oh geez, you’re going to bring out my nerdy side here – but if we were playing desert island and I could only read one thing forever, it would be the Harry Potter series. I even have a Deathly Hallows symbol tattooed behind my ear!

I also love anything by Nora Roberts / JD Robb (her pen name). My mom and grandma have had me reading them since I was little and the love has only grown since then!

Is there anything else that you would like little Indiana readers to know?
Well, to reference one of Jessica’s other articles – you simply MUST find time to visit SugarBean Cupcakes! They’re delicious and the staff is wonderful (though I may be a bit biased since it’s my friend’s mom that owns the store and my cousin works there, too!)

Other than that? I love meeting new people, so stop by the blog and say hello! 🙂
