Little Indiana on PBS: Huntingburg, Indiana

I am back on PBS with a new Little Indiana segment. Are you excited? I know that I am. I’ve got such a fun town to share with you.

This time I explore Huntingburg, Indiana. This Dubois County town is so gorgeous, the downtown is so charming, that it has been the site of three movies–and that includes one that I know I watched over and over, and I bet you have too: A League of their Own. Do you remember it? A League of their Own was a great baseball movie that starred Tom Hanks, Gena Davis, and Madonna. Don’t you  wonder if they loved the small town, too? Did they wander around and see the sites during their down-time, when they weren’t filming? I don’t see how you couldn’t, not when it has so much to discover and do. You can take a peek at a large-scale prop left over from the movie.

Check out League Stadium. It looks exactly as it did in the movie, down to the vintage light fixtures and advertisements. Browse the super fun shops downtown that vary from antiques to home decor and kitchen supplies, as well as a slew of places to eat or drink, and you’ve got one phenomenal small town.

A Charming Small Town

Jessica Nunemaker Little Indiana on PBS

Huntington is such an adorable small town. You won’t believe the architecture. I love the way they play music over the speakers. When you walk around the shops, you hear music streaming. It makes everyday shopping feel festive and fun. It’s particularly magical during the holiday season when classic songs float over the town. But there’s more than shopping in Huntingburg.

Look for the leftover, big as life movie props, historic sites, and great dining options, from restaurants to cafes. Yum! See the fun you’ve been missing on this week’s edition of Little Indiana on The Weekly Special. I’ll show you the sites and give you the lowdown one Indiana town at a time. Is there something I missed? Please let me know in the comments below. You know I will make an effort to get back to it as soon as I can. I love to see what you are cooking up.

You can watch me in Huntingburg, Indiana right here (below), on the PBS website, or on YouTube. There’s always more where that came from. With a bit of luck, I will be able to snag a sponsor–which would mean a full length “in the field” show for you. Can you imagine? A full-length show that features every bit of what these towns have to offer? It would be incredible. But, I can’t do it alone.

Watch and share the video (and my plea for a sponsor) with your friends, acquaintances, and rich aunts or uncles. Let’s give these small towns the spotlight they deserve.
