Red Cup Cafe in Chesterton, Indiana couldn’t be more hip and happening. Look at the painted red and white ceiling, working record player to provide a bit of background noise, and styling chairs. Get a load of that artsy vibe.

Chesterton, Indiana Coffee Shop

Red Cup Cafe in Chesterton, Indiana Exterior

Red Cup Cafe in Chesterton, Indiana Exterior is welcoming yet modern. Sit outside and watch the bustle of downtown Chesterton. It’s a great spot for people watching.

They may be known for amazing quiche but what would a coffee shop be without a great selection of coffee? This Porter County coffee shop certainly has a great selection.

You’ll find the usual drinks: chai tea, espresso, mocha, cappuccino and so on as well as specialty coffee from Chicago roaster Metropolis. Are you familiar with that brand? It’s fabulous. I love the story behind it too. You see, the dad (Jeff) was an Indonesian Language Professor at the University of Washington-Seattle in the 1990s. Every day he would stop by a coffee shop. Over time, he got to know the master roaster and the coffee buyer–and began to learn about roasting coffee.

The son, Tony, finished up his Philosophy degree in the  1990s. He, too, began to learn how to roast coffee. It was only natural that they would eventually team up and create a father-son family coffee roasting company. That was in 2001. The doors to their small batch artisan roasting business opened in Chicago in 2003 and now, here we are–with Red Cup Coffee in Chesterton using their beans in 2013. I love when businesses support other family-owned businesses.

Combined with changing specials, soups, and a menu that focuses on fresh (muffins are made that day, every day), and you’ve got another great dining option in downtown Chesterton, Indiana. My recommendation? If you want to watch the world go by, grab one of the seats outside. Otherwise, soak up the crazy cool atmosphere inside.
