Joy Ann Cake Shop and Bakery in Richmond, Indiana: Thumbprint Cookies

Joy Ann Bakery in Richmond, Indiana has been a part of the downtown for more than 70 years.

That’s decades of donuts, pastries, cookies, and all around goodness.

There’s nothing better than that first step inside of an Indiana bakery and the smells of freshly baked cookies and cupcakes.

Cases held a range of cookies that included Chocolate Chip, Snickerdoodle, Smiley Faces, and Thumbprint Cookies (among others).

I was urged to give the Thumbprint Cookies a try–and wow, those are the best I had ever had. Full of poppy seeds crushed cashews and pecans, but with a blip of frosting in their centers, they are not your typical thumbprint cookie. They just melt in your mouth. Who can resist anything topped with frosting?

But a great bakery has to include more than just cookies. At Joy Ann Bakery, we discovered gorgeous cakes and super cute cupcakes. Tie-dyed cupcakes with peace signs or animals or Wizard of Oz toppers, they were certainly eye-appealing.

I’ve heard that they have absolutely delicious frosting but we didn’t taste test any of those. Next time we will make a point of it. I wish we had thought to purchase one for the road.

There’s still more goodies inside this central Indiana bakery. Cannoli and cream puffs (you know those are my favorite things) and other pastries also made the cases at Joy Ann Cake Shop and Bakery.

Everything looked so good. There’s a really nice attention to detail here. The cupcakes had such nice toppers and the items were nicely arranged. It kind of makes you want to try one of everything.

When hunger strikes and you need a snack, pop into Joy Ann Bakery in downtown Richmond, Indiana and see what’s baking. Just be sure to arrive earlier in the day. Bakeries tend to keep early hours and close sooner than you might think. If you are in town for a special event, like the Richmond Meltdown Festival, they do stay open later on occasion.

Make sure to add a couple of Thumbprint Cookies to your order. They are out of this world and the first thing I try to get whenever I revisit downtown Richmond.
