The downtown Valparaiso dining scene continues to grow, something I realized when I made a list of places I had not tried – including Main + Lincoln. When my wife and I had a guest in from Michigan, we decided to skip cooking for a night and whittle down our list of restaurants that we’ve yet to try. Main + Lincoln here we come.
The first thing we noticed when we entered is that the restaurant took advantage of being in a downtown building by not covering up the original brick walls and tin ceiling. It look wonderful.
The next things we noticed was the menu, with plenty of favorites prepared with unique twists. We appreciate a unique menu. Main + Lincoln was impressing us right from the start–and we had not even tasted the food.

Bacon-wrapped asparagus appetizer at Main + Lincoln in Valparaiso, Indiana
The menu at Main + Lincoln is smart and sophisticated, with a variety of choices to suit every taste. Their bar features plenty of microbrews, wines and cocktails.
We started with an appetizer of bacon-wrapped asparagus with a side of miso sauce which was unique and delicious.
I opted for the seared wild-caught Alaskan halibut, which was served over creamed corn and oysters. The entree was a taste sensation, with the corn and oysters forming one great combination and the halibut flavorful on its own.
My wife dining decided to go with sides – potato puree, sauteed spinach and a mixed green salad. Our guestordered (and loved) the pasta special, spaghetti with shrimp and Italian sausage in the tomato sauce.
We finished our dinner with Valpo Velvet ice cream and the orange granita with whipped cream and bittersweet chocolate flakes.
