Carol’s Toy Shop in Hagerstown, Indiana

We were hardly outside of the music and recording studio in Hagerstown, Indiana when our oldest son yelled, “There’s a toy store! Carol’s Toy Shop! Can we go? You could write about it!”

But of course. So, we hurried across the street in case they were getting ready to close for the day.

This was one more in a list of awesome shops in downtown Hagerstown. Nope, this isn’t the largest of town (the population here is below 1800 as of 2013) but this toy shop was so much fun and certainly unexpected!

You won’t find squeaky new toys here–but you will find squeaky clean, gently used toys.  Stock changes frequently thanks to donations and consignment. What a great way to get rid of those couple of toys that the kids don’t ever play with and that just sit, sit, and sit some more.

Everything is neatly organized and arranged. That’s no mean feat when it’s a kid’s dream place! And, believe you me, this is a kid’s dream come true!

I could have thrown down a ton of money here and left with such awesome bargains! As it was, we didn’t leave empty-handed. I am pretty sure we cleaned them out of their Micro Machines stock. They are obsessed with those things. Of course, the one discontinued toy! The boys could have easily raided the board games too.

There was so much to look at and love! It isn’t a huge shop but it did have excellent variety for both girls and boys. Why, there were even larger play sets, like play kitchens and ride-ons!

With prices so reasonable, it would be a great place to stop, stretch your legs, and let the kids pick out a toy to play with in the car as you and yours continued exploring small Indiana towns. Dolls or books, cars or stuffed animals, it’s all right within reach.
