Established in 2003, brothers in law Matt and Chuck opened the doors of this casual restaurant to the community. Focusing on freshness, from the hand-formed patties to the daily made buns from a local bakery, it quickly gained attention! I love when small businesses work together.
You could say it is going well. According to their website, since January 2014, they have “sold over 80,000 Big Uglies, which equates to 110,000 lbs of ground chuck!” That’s a mouthful.
After dropping our oldest, Kid #1, off at camp the three of us stepped into this bustling burger joint eager for a memorable meal. We can’t resist a good burger!

We weren’t sure where to go so we walked into the ice cream parlor. Located at the front of the building, make your way to the back (if you enter the same way we did) and head through the doors. We chose outdoor seating during our visit. The people watching was excellent, situated as it is next to the Monon Trail.
My husband, Jeremy, browsed the beer and wine menu but I was psyched about a milkshake menu! Strawberry, Chocolate, Vanilla or Banana hand-dipped milkshakes are available–and I went with the banana! It was large enough to share a little with Kid #2.
Speaking of the kid, he went with a corn dog and a side of cottage cheese. No surprise there! But there was actually a surprise. This wasn’t a typical kid’s meal, this one also included Goldfish crackers and fruit snacks. I loved that we had something portable to take along if the corn dog and side didn’t fill him up!
My husband went for the Elk Burger while I had the smaller Big Ugly. Wow. I mean WOW! I was originally jealous of my husband claiming dibs on the elk burger until I took a bite of my beefy handful. It was so incredible! What on Earth do they put in there to give it that pop of flavor? I highly recommend it.
