Payne’s Custard and Coffee in Gas City, Indiana is THE place to go in town for a great cup of coffee and amazing fresh, local foods. Old fashioned frozen custard and sticky toffee pudding are just a few things that are not to be missed. Did I mention that they also serve an assortment of Indiana beers?

Step inside Payne’s Custard and Coffee and prepare to be wowed. Mismatched tables and booths and benches are painted in complementary hues. The tops of some tables are decoupaged in pages from vintage cookbooks or Indiana maps. I think that is such a nice idea.

The server passes out the menu which is tucked inside a range of neat vintage books. It is so much fun. Before you even sit down you can tell that this place is going to be great.

Not only do they roast their own coffee inside the Grant County restaurant but they also use produce, eggs, and meats from local farmers every chance they get. You can definitely tell. Everything is so fresh.

It hasn’t always been easy. Payne’s Custard and Coffee had just six short months under their belt before a big box, big name coffee shop opened up across the street in this small Indiana town. That absolutely grinds my gears.

What could have been a death blow turned into a challenge for this family. They created something unique, original, and memorable. It hasn’t been a smooth ride, but they’ve found their footing and created a dining experience that’s hard to top.

Payne’s Custard and Coffee is the perfect local option. I absolutely love the combination of local produce with fresh roasted coffee. I don’t know why anyone would settle for anything else. It’s fabulous no matter how you look at it.

The outdoor seating at this Indiana coffee shop is phenomenal. Someone obviously has a green thumb–it’s gorgeous. They have included a raised garden bed area that’s no till, uses no pesticides, and no insecticides. The things they are growing in their garden will make their way to your plate.

Inside or out, there’s a lot to love about Payne’s Custard and Coffee in Gas City, Indiana. In fact, I’d say it’s good to the last drop…or last little crumb of the delicious sticky toffee pudding.
