Standing on the same corner lot for decades, Frostop is certainly a Tell City, Indiana landmark. This unique seasonal food and ice cream shop is well known for the local favorite: a root beer float.

I can’t resist any mom and pop ice cream shop or restaurant, let alone one that has been in business for longer than I’ve been alive.
In fact, I can’t resist it even if I just had a giant smoothie and am so absolutely stuffed already but know it’s my last chance to try this Perry County staple before I swing by this area again. I’m all sorts of dedicated.
What is Little Indiana to do? She sucks it up and digs in. Oh yeah, there’s a reason Frostop is known for awesome root beer floats. My husband was very satisfied with that order. I don’t drink soft drinks so I only admired the mix of colors. He said it was an excellent root beer float.

As for my own order? It was tough. I decided to go with something a bit different. I wanted flavors that you don’t always find. I found them at Frostop. So, I added in two items to my husband’s order: a Dreamsicle milkshake and a Cherry milkshake. It’s all in the name of research. See what I have to do to meet my own strict ethical standards? It’s a tough life.
My husband and I dug in to those as well (our boys were so stuffed they turned down ice cream. I was not kidding when I said we had just eaten). Boy were they missing out. Those shakes are so good. I love, love, LOVE when an ice cream shop has unique flavors on the menu rather than your standard vanilla or chocolate. I think those are my new “go to” shake flavors. That was a memorable treat.
But ice cream isn’t the only item you’ll find at Frostop. Burgers and fries are available. There’s more where that came from. Pizza burgers, pronto pups, orbit burgers, chicken sandwiches, and even pork tenderloin sandwiches are on this menu. Take a look at changing daily specials to keep it interesting and fresh. They always have something going on.
Go There
The Southern Indiana Frostop is a downtown icon for a reason. Pop inside this seasonal shop before they close their doors until next season.
Call ahead before heading out to make sure you don’t catch them too late. I can’t think of anything more sad than having to wait a whole year for a root beer float or delicious milkshake from Frostop.
