Storefront of What’s the Scoop in Crown Point, Indiana

A throwback to the classic ice cream parlors, What’s the Scoop in downtown Crown Point, Indiana is a great place to stop in for a treat!

Just south of the courthouse square lives this “must stop” for the locals during the many community events that happen in downtown Crown Point, including the Thursday Car Cruise nights in the summer. The square is bustling with energy–and amazing classic cars.

Feel like you’ve gone back in time as you enter and see the black and white tile floor, colorful booths and vintage memorabilia lining the walls.

I love the tons of décor they have. You could spend an hour looking at all the fun, little details they have lining the walls. Antiques include an old stove and refrigerator along the wall and a baby carriage hanging at the back.

There’s also a jukebox and a pink Statue of Liberty dressed for a night on the town. It’s totally unexpected and simply delightful. Kids love to look at the walls–which gives grown-ups a chance to socialize uninterrupted.

And you certainly can’t miss the “ladybug” bulldog statue at the front of the store. It’s kind of an eye-catcher. This Lake County city had a campaign a few years back where different businesses bought and painted bulldog statues to display around town. The bulldog is the city’s high school mascot.

What’s the Scoop is the perfect stop for lunch. For your main dish, they have sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads and hot dogs.

Then comes the really good part of the meal at this Indiana ice cream parlor featuring Hershey’s ice cream in more than 25 flavors. I tried a coffee flavored ice cream and it was one of the best I’ve ever had!

I just picked a scoop in a cup, but they have your choice of cones, sundaes, banana splits and more concoctions to choose from. You can get creative if you want to.

To keep the kids busy after they wolf down their ice cream, they have a game room in the back. This gave my sister and me a little extra time to savor our treats! Savor  them, we did.
