The Viking in Monon, Indiana Pork Tenderloin Sandwich and Fries
It was a beautiful day so I surprised our boys with a road trip to The Viking in Monon, Indiana.
After hearing plenty about the pork tenderloin sandwiches, I was ready to try it for myself!

This isn’t some fancy pants sit down place but it sure is friendly. The Viking in Monon is all about serving food, well, fast!
Locals rush in during their lunch break. Families flood the booths during dinner. Everyone chit chats and relaxes. It’s a place where everyone knows everyone else–and the folks behind the counter often know the “usual” order. Locals in a hurry know to call ahead so their order is ready when they are.
With their Daily Lunch Special Frequent Customer Cards that entitles users to a sixth free special meal after the purchase of five specials, it’s a bargain as well! The specials remain the same from week to week.

Using local meats, diners choose among the typical Hoosier favorites. There’s the pork tenderloin sandwich, of course, as well as burgers, hot dogs, and pizza. I cannot attest to the goodness of any other products–but I can comment and heartily recommend what we ordered at this White County restaurant.
First things first though: what to expect! There’s quite a bit of booth seating inside The Viking! I’ve heard this is a remodel so if you haven’t been around in awhile, you may want to pop in and take a peek. It looks great and was quite clean.
Order up at the counter. Yes, there is a drive-through window, too. Whether you choose to dine in or carry out, you can have a seat until your order is ready. Then, head back to the counter and grab it.

Our oldest loves burgers. My goodness, I think that kid could eat a burger every day and never tire of it! But who am I to talk? This is only my bajillionth pork tenderloin sandwich order and I am still going strong!
The youngest got a hot dog. We ordered three things of French fries but if I ordered in, I would get a basket of fries instead. I’m not sure how that works with carryout. Those fries were so crispy and very good.
My tenderloin was nice. I don’t typically order them topped with lettuce, tomato, or onion but on their own these had lots of flavor. In fact, they were memorable enough to order again when I was in the area and hungry a few weeks later!

The Viking in Monon, Indiana is a fun place to grab great food at reasonable prices. Seasonal menu items, like soup, will pop up when the weather shifts.
As for us, we took ours over to the Monon Town Park. It’s a great place to play for families and will certainly be featured in an upcoming article. For folks at Indiana Beach, The Viking is an easy little drive–and only ten miles away!
