The Turquoise Hen in Batesville, Indiana is an upscale women’s clothing lifestyle boutique and home decor destination that’s easy to find–and impossible to leave. There are just so many pretty things to touch, browse, and admire.
Some people have a way with words, or cooking, or gardening. For owner Stephanie Bamonte, she has a way with redoing vintage furniture, finding just the right items to stock in her beautiful boutique–and how to arrange it all. If you’ve been feeling a little “ho-hum.” One visit to Turquoise Hens will turn it all around.
Turquoise Hen in Batesville
Some of you intrepid, brave, and rugged Indiana explorers may have already wandered into this shop’s original location. It has since moved from the RomWeber area into a lovely, bright space.
A large window display area enables Stephanie to easily highlight her wares to any passersby. She has much more room all around–and such an adorable storefront.
I was tagging along with Ripley County Tourism pro Katherine Taul for the day. We wanted to get into the shop but we weren’t even sure where it had relocated within Batesville. We had just left another business when I realized the time–they were probably going to close soon!
You better believe I didn’t want to miss this one. I had a book (affiliate link–see how I use wishlists to shop small) Little Indiana: Small Town Destinations to finish up and I wanted to make sure I could include it.
In separate cars, as we were, we both managed to call and get in touch with the shop owner before we arrived, without knowing that that was what the other person was doing. Ah, it’s nice that Kid #1 is older now (9 at the time of our visit) and can handle things like that.
Anyway, I guess you could say that Stephanie of Turquoise Hen had plenty of advance notice.
Big on Beauty
Some people think that you can only “make a go of it” if you’ve got a big city locale. Stephanie’s proving otherwise. Customers, new and regular, specifically arrive in Batesville for her shop, driving in from miles and miles around.
Every part of this shop is organized. It’s clean and shining, welcoming and comfortable.
This isn’t just a women’s clothing boutique. Stephanie terms it a women’s upscale lifestyle clothing boutique. You are just as likely to find a stylish designer dress (in a range of sizes) to wear to a big event as you are to find premium denim, yoga clothing lines, and vintage furniture.
She also has One Love Organics skin care and some of the best smelling candles ever. EVER.
Vintage Furniture and Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan
Ah, the vintage furniture. At Turquoise Hen, Stephanie doesn’t only carry Chalk Paint® decorative paints by Annie Sloan (as well as the waxes and brushes), she uses the paint to give old things a fresh face.
Are you familiar with Annie Sloan paint? Well, it’s gorgeous stuff! It’s also exclusive. A shop has to be approved to carry it and no one else will be allowed to carry it within so many miles. It’s a big deal.
At Turquoise Hen, she carries the most beautifully redone pieces of furniture. The red dresser? Oh, I want that so much it hurts. But, it was either buy a dresser or take the kids back home with me. I chose the kids. I’m sorta kinda attached to them.
Kidding aside, each of the lovely painted pieces in Stephanie’s shop is ready for a new home. Will it be yours?
Inside Turquoise Hen
If your furniture could use a bit of a boost, pop inside of Turquoise Hen. Not only will you find stylish items for you and your home, but you can take a class to learn how to make-over your own tired pieces.
Oh, if you act quickly, her next workshop, Chalk Paint® 101 Workshop, will be Saturday, January 30 at 10 AM – 1 PM EST. There is a fee but it will cover all of the needed supplies.
The workshop will cover the basic techniques of painting with Chalk Paint: 2-color distressed; color washing; smooth/modern; textured/rustic.
