Step under the arched brick doorway and step into the “mix.” Did you know that the word mescolare is Italian for “mix?” I didn’t either. Now, Not only is it gorgeous, it’s full of fantastic kitchen items. There’s a surprising amount of space in here. The owner does a fantastic job on the displays. If you need a super fast gift, I would recommend stopping here. The way she already arranged things is already paired together as though it were for a gift. Easy, peasy, shopping is done.
Bottle openers, spatulas, plates, mixing bowls, mugs, pitchers, bottle stoppers, and serving platters are just a handful of useful items found inside this shop. Do you get the idea?
I absolutely love the collection of polka dot plates, mixing bowls, and mugs! Now that is just adorable. It feels so cheery and bright. It would feel like a burst of spring no matter what the season.

But there’s more than kitchen essentials inside this beautiful shop. You can’t help but notice the gourmet food. You won’t be able to resist the scrumptious selection. You will find Sprigat, a sauce that works for both spaghetti and all kinds of pasta, as well as packaged hot cocoa mixes, cookies, jams, jellies, pickled items, and so many more.
There’s a lot of familiar foodie favorites inside Mescolare–even Two Cookin’ Sisters is here. Salsa, salts, pastas, and chocolate also have place on the shelves. She’s even carrying a limited selection of cookbooks. I think it would be cute to pair a cookbook with a couple of dish towels, a cooking accessory, and maybe some of the gourmet seasonings, fancy salts, or ingredients to make a meal, like dried pasta and one of her pasta sauces.
Everything is so artfully arranged. Mescolare invites browsing and looking and simply enjoying. What a fantastic Lake County find.
